Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Fixed blade Friday... I present to you my Gerber Principle in 420HC. It's got a scandi grind, so I keep it pretty sharp without much effort. Our pipe this morning is my oldest MM cob, as today will be a Warhorse bar red kind of day!

    Warhorse Bar Green

I heard that the "singular top note" they use for Warhorse Bar is obtained by letting the plugs age in an old locker where Charles Bronson accidentally left a pair of shorts after a workout. Can't confirm though.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

My daily pocket knives are my Elishewitz designed Benchmade 886 Bluestar in 154CM, (as you can see the black teflon blade coating has suffered over the years), or my Carson designed CRKT M16-13M. The pipes today are my Grabow Grand Duke, and my Jensen.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

Smoked this bowl with some chagrin. I was going to dip into my last few ounces of jarred Balkan Sobranie, and it had mold (definitely). I did the responsible thing and dumped it along the fence line, and had some Black Frigate in my Danmore.

What Are You Drinking? May 2024

That Vodka tonic does sound refreshing...I think I'll whip up a little something. It's a pretty humid day here, and that sounds just fine.

Having a lovely glass of Sandeman 20 year Tawny Port, thinking about opening a tin.

There Was Once a Time I Loved Long Smokes

Well my friend, I want to first extend to you sympathy for your health conditions, and a sincere hope that you would enjoy a swift and full recovery from what ails you. My hasty first suggestion would be that you could try a small bowled pipe. My smallest pipe is a Dr Grabow Grand Duke, and it...

    My First Pipe Dream

Very interesting. Tell us about your mother. Wait, no, getting therapy from the internet is the worst possible scenario. It's worse than going into business with friends, or loaning money to family. Regarding your dream though, it seems logical for you to build yourself a pipe smoking space...

    2024 Texas Pipe Show

Like many hobby/trade shows there are swaps, sales, new models and new artists featured, old artists and genre contributors get honored and sometimes speak, contests, that sort of thing. Murder mysteries and bachelor party hijinx a la The Hangover are relatively rare.

    Plug tobacco

I love plug tobaccos, particularly Salty Dogs....but my tips are that plugs will retain moisture, and also will expand more in the bowl when you are lighting. To that end, as you learn how to smoke them I'd recommend processing them down finely, packing them a little loosely. You'll find the...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

Finished off my evening with some Former's Private Flake in my '74 Travers LaRue.

School's Out For Summer! Possibly Forever?!

Welcome William! Before you get too far, let me just tell you A: It's often said that it's better to be lucky than good, and B: You have made a (reversible) error in preemptively refusing betrothal negotiations. We are an eclectic group, but all of our daughters are brilliant, beautiful, have...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

Some 2020 GLP Fillmore, in my tidy little Jensen, ignore the Dorchester in the photo!

    What "The Wife" Thinks

I'm pretty sure this is why people came up with aromatics. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Popeye the sailor man, virginia ropes dipped in rum. Whatever. You think that the wives were like "oh sure baby, come to bed smelling like rank weed and hard liquor!" Negative. First dude who came home from poker night...

An Annoying Occurance: Flake Tobacco Clogging a Fully Bent Pipe

If it doesn't happen with any of your other pipes, maybe it's just one of the unique qualities of that particular one? If that's so, it could be the drilling and layout is such that it's just not a great pipe for fold and stuff. But, don't despair! Even if that was the case, you could just put...

What Tobacco did your Ancestors Smoke?

My Granddad smoked Swisher cigars, and then when his doctor told him to quit smoking, he just kept them in his mouth and chewed the ends.
