    Overrated Tobaccos

I think most of the 'hyped' pipe tobaccos are overrated. I'd include all of the current U.S. offerings of Dunhill, Sam Gawith's FVF and Squadron Leader as well as Esoterica's Stonehaven on a long list of good blends that are way too apprised. Of course, this is just my opinion!

    Smokingpipes.com for Canadians?

Sparroa, No apology necessary. I certainly didn't get from your original post any negative implications, honestly. As far as I'm concerned we're all in this together.

    Smokingpipes.com for Canadians?

Sparroa, Glad you like what you see on our site. Honestly, no hard feelings if you choose to do your business elsewhere. I still can't get my best friend to order from us! I only got involved in the conversation because you raise a very good question. Stick with 200 grams or less. I've heard 250...

    Smokingpipes.com for Canadians?

Globally, we've had lots of customers that have not had any problems with their customs. However, it happens and it's beyond the control of the etailer. Most times customers aren't reading the fine print regarding what they can actually order without raising an eyebrow from their government.

    Tin presentation and blend name

The metal tins used by Mac Baren and Orlik (and others) are superior for keeping out unwanted fresh air simply because they are threaded and screw closed. Although I've never had any real issues with the plastic lid the tin itself is more inclined to burst over a time if they are damaged and/or...

    Tin presentation and blend name

Lawrence, good choice! Although I can't say that I'm very crazy about Sam Gawith English or Balkan blends, they have some very cool tin art. While tin art is an important part of the pipe smoking experience some of my favorite tobaccos have either terrible tin graphics (Wilderness, for instance)...

    English Blends

Cornell & Diehl's English Sampler is also very good. If you want to save money, go for bulk choices and look for one ounce offerings. Peter Stokkebye has already been mentioned, which I will second.

    Dunhill identification help

That pipe could have cost you upwards of $300.

    Dunhill identification help

Actually sounds like you got the pipe for a really good price. I'm very curious about the year. The pipe sock reminds me of those made in the 1980s. On the pipe it should say something like 'Made in England' with a very small number behind it. What's that number? Is it underlined or not?

    Dry European Snuff Anyone?

Like everything, some snuff is really high quality and some snuff is not. It was more popular in the eighteenth century than even pipe tobacco. It's enjoyable primarily for a small, quick nicotine buzz and a very enjoyable fragrance. It's like pipe smoking. If you haven't tried it, it's...

    Dunhill identification help

I'd ask the buyer to give you more information about the pipe. Should have plenty of stamps to indicate its class and year. That would narrow things down considerably.

    Dry European Snuff Anyone?

I've been using a lot of snuff lately. I really enjoy much of what F&T has to offer.

    The "Recommend a Blend" Thread

Buck67, you might like Altadis B20. Very similar style of fire-cured black Cavendish.

    Huge deals at Smokingpipes

Yes, I was very happy when we sat down to test out the code for the site. Everyone in the building had this feeling like we were about to do something great. It's nice to hear the positive feedback!

    The "Recommend a Blend" Thread

Try McClelland 5110. You might consider it a 'bulk version' of Frog Morton although it is slightly different; like, not as sweet.

    Tried Dunhill..

Danboston, you might just want to try an English (eventually) outside of the Dunhill/Orlik camp. Look to a different blender for an English blend, like McClelland or something by Esoterica should you decided to explore latakia once more. You may find that you prefer the way another house mixes...

    What are you listening to?

papipeguy, Steely Dan is one of my favorites. Royal Scam, Aja, and Gaucho are three of the finest records of that era. If you are looking for younger artists check out Sufjan Steven's album 'Illinois'. It's entirely different than the Dan but of the same high quality musicianship and recording...

    Best Bulk Tobacco?

Right now I'm really enjoying McClelland's 5100 Red Cake. Dangerously good stuff!

    Show Us Your Christmas Gift!

Adam Davidson and my wife teamed up to get me a 6.5 year old 2oz. tin of Renaissance and a 3 year old pound of 1792. Now I wish I had taken pictures. Everything has since been jarred.

Bad Experiences With Another Pipe Smoker?

I've had many experiences like this, as a matter of fact. Consequently, I've concluded that the notion of some assumed brotherhood between pipe smokers is a bit presumptuous and that my pipe hobby is for many pipe smokers simply a pipe habit and not a point of common interest.
