How to sanitize a bowl without salt/alcohol treatment??

I don't think you need to sanitize the bowl. No germs there. At least nothing that will ever get inside you. You've said the stem and bit are nice and sanitized; that's all the germ-killing you need to do. If you want to clean up your bowl, a reamer, sand paper, or even a knife is all you...

    The Different Blends

Lawrence, happy to shed some light. :)

    The Different Blends

I had thought about that, considering I smoke a lot of burley. I usually just class burley blends the same way most do Virginia/perique: Burley/Virginia, Burley/perique, et cetera. Maybe we should come up with a special name for Virginia/burley/perique blends, of which there are many. In fact...

    Frog Morton...

Bubba, in case you haven't tried it, McClelland's bulk 5110 is very similar to Frog Morton on the Town. But yeah, the regular in bulk would be very nice.

    The Different Blends

And to add to Bubba, some Cavendish style tobaccos can be slightly sweet because of the curing process without necessarily being sweet enough to constitute an aromatic component in a blend.

    The Different Blends

I realize that by posting this 'rule of thumb' I'm likely to stir up both a little controversy and perhaps some criticism, but I'm going to post this guideline anyway. I hear a lot of confusion regarding what makes an English an English, a Balkan a Balkan, an Oriental blend an Oriental blend. Of...

    Frog Morton...

All the Frog Morton's are good English blends. I especially like Across the Pond; just a nice Syrian.

Heavy Latakia Flavour - Light(er) Nicotine Punch

Latakia has less nicotine than the vast majority of Virginia blends, and certainly burley blends. You might not be as sensitive to these heavy latakia blends as you might think.

    Prince Albert Needed Right Now

In addition to how tasty Prince Albert is, it's dirt cheap too. Last time I bought some here in South Carolina I only paid $1.89 for a 1.5 oz pouch.

Where are all the Peter Stokkebye blends?

William, while I agree with your comments I think that the new wave of pipe smokers is taking a bigger toll on the tobacco supplies than hoarders. You can see it on the various forums (how much activity has this board seen compared to last year, Kevin?) and in other aspects of the industry. Take...

Where are all the Peter Stokkebye blends?

I don't think it's hoarding. There are so many more pipe smokers poking around the internet than there were just a year ago. Like it or not, there just isn't enough to go around.

    McClelland Tins - Suggestions?

hobie1dog, this is good to hear. I think McClelland is doing some wonderful stuff right now with their stash of Syrian.

    McClelland Tins - Suggestions?

sjolie, 3 Oaks Syrian and Wilderness are my current top choices.

    McClelland Tins - Suggestions?

As far as the Personal Reserve goes I recommend both Blackwoods Flake (especially with some age) and Dark Star. Also, if you're looking for a Virgina/perique blend you might want to try St. James Woods, also part of the Personal Reserve line. You said you tried the British Woods, which I think...

    pipesmagazine.com T shirts,hats,coffee cups, etc.,,,

Obviously Kevin has a grand, well thought-out marketing strategy which sounds way cooler than hats and shirts. Suddenly I'm excited for Chicago (really excited) and can only hope that the Smokingpipes.com booth is right next to the PipesMagazine.com booth. Having said that, I would totally rock...

    Burley Brawl

Re-reading my OP I realize that I don't make clear that I really like this burley blend!

    Drink, Food and Blend pairs

San Pellegrino and Stockton is my perfect pair.

    Burley Brawl

I know the virtues of Prince Albert, Middleton's Carter Hall, Solani's Aged Burley, and etcetera, but does anyone enjoy Mac Baren's Burley London Blend the way I do? Certainly, the way I enjoy this burley blend is an individually unique condition, however, it seems that regarding many of these...

What Aromatics are good for a new pipe smoker?

Lawrence, everything I've been told and have seen support this, however you smoke a lot more of both than I and I have never seen the facility (nor claim to possess the insight of those) that produce these blends. Having said that, I think at least the similarities between these two blends may...
