    British Tea Time

As I said, I made an extreme (and probably stupid) generalisation and would be more than happy to rephrase my original statement as "Why do some Americans"? Unfortunately edit is time limited so I can't.

    British Tea Time

Yes my statement was a bit of an extreme generalisation although I would say that whenever I (or more often someone I'm with) has ordered tea in a restaurant or diner in the US the waiter/waitress has almost always asked if we want 'cream and sugar' with it.

    British Tea Time

Why do American's say 'cream' when they mean 'milk'? (No one in their right mind - not even the English - would put cream in tea.) I was brought up drinking tea and coffee with milk; switched to black coffee when I was 12 and dropped milk from tea when I was in my 20's. At least in England...

Watch Out or Watch on? Pt 2.

A couple of my more recent acquisitions... Houtman Pilbara. This was bought via Kickstarter, Houtman is a small company based in Perth - Western Australia - and this version has a dial made of compressed Western Australian rock; so no two are alike. Took about 18 months from signing up for...

    Crazy Tax on Pipe Tobacco

I'm sure some of the members actually in Aus and NZ will comment at some point! I left Australia in Jan 2020 but since then they have increased the excise duty on tobacco. As of yesterday (1st March 2022) the duty payable on 1Kg of tobacco is AU $1610 !!! So using the 14oz tub example...

    Crazy Tax on Pipe Tobacco

If it could be bought in Brazil... In addition to ICMS (VAT) of 17%; there is an IMI (industrial tax) to be paid. For tobacco the IMI rate is set at 600%... so the 14oz tub of Prince Albert would be ($38.25 * 1.17) * 6) or ~ $268 or around $28,72 for 1.5 oz

Is a Zippo Pipe Insert Really Better?

I have several zippos; a couple have regular inserts but I only ever use the ones with pipe inserts. I've never had any problems using the pipe insert to light a Peterson (or any other pipe for that matter).

    Durian KitKat

Berwick St market used to be a good place to find them; sometimes popped down there from the office at lunchtime with a Malaysian colleague. She was an expert at tracking down the good ones!

    Shapes

Pretty much any shape in any finish in my collection... ...but I only have one straight pipe; everything else has a bent stem (or at least a small curve). Don't know why, but I just prefer to smoke bent pipes.
