As already explained, we do not control Spanish tax laws. And there had been no increase in prices for a number of years and so we had a price increase last year. GH took over SG in 2015. We are now 8 years later and there was a price increase 7 years after the take over. It was either this or...

All of this has been answered a hundred times. We are a very small company. There are 30 of us in total. We are a small factory and finding larger premises where we are (even setting aside the astronomical cost for land and building around here) is near on impossible. And we cannot simply move...

No. Under an old agreement STG make revor plug and we have the rights to sell it in the UK. We cannot sell it anywhere else. From an earlier thread in which you participated so this has already been covered. "Chris Gawith advised several months ago that GH does NOT manufacture Revor Plug...

Haha...passes an evening :P No not on any foreign language forums. Think that might be a little too challenging!

Revor plug is a blend made by STG under an old agreement for GH to sell in the UK. We make all our own plugs in our own factory.

Sure.....we'll just spend a few million on a new machine!!!!!!!! STG is a massive company with a massive bank account!!! We are not interested in 'subbing' out our production. We would far rather produce less but good quality and traditionally.

We send 4 times more tobacco to the USA now than ever before. If not more than that. Similar to other places. Do you honestly think a company does not constantly consider how to increase production when order books are full for months and months to come? But it's not a simple concept to do...

LOL no Charlie ain't taking all the tobacco! We are constantly working on orders for the USA (and many other countries) but it can take up to 3 months to fulfil an order/container depending on what is ordered and then it sells out within several days once it reaches the States. There are...

    Gawith Hoggarth Drop

You cannot just introduce new blends to the USA, due to the FDA and grandfathering regulations.

I'd have to go back and check the history books but think the American Civil war was a major turning point. Tobacco into England/Scotland was built on the slave trade - there was a triangle with ships taking sugar/slaves/tobacco between points and I think export of cloth/leather etc from England.

I don't know when it was, but it constantly changes year on year. We used to get a lot from Syria before war broke out. New rule of origin regulations mean we now use more European leaf. We get samples sent each year and much depends on quality, price, availability, logistics as to where it...

I don't think much of our leaf comes from Africa now. It used to but droughts, wars etc meant was not easy to get. Certainly in the archives there is a lot of reference to the Dakeyne-Cannon's (who took over Samuel Gawith's in the 30's ) going out to what's was Rhodesia and having some sort of...

    Should I Buy Aged Tobacco?

@cosmicfolklore - haha yes this is true. The house I live in is considered fairly new, it's only around 120 years old. Our old farm was built in the 1600's, the factory at Lowther Street in the 1700's. And my daily commute is around 7 miles and that's considered living in the middle of nowhere...

    Should I Buy Aged Tobacco?

Ageing has become a trend. And yes is relatively new. Considering we have been producing tobacco as a family for 200+ years, the fact that a relatively few people in a couple of countries decided to put some away for later, makes it relatively new. Many now buy many tins of the same thing to...

    Should I Buy Aged Tobacco?

Not sure why surprised when I have always said our tobacco is produced ready to be smoked and that this "Ageing" is a new trend and not something we encourage. It's completely subjective as to whether someone finds an aged tobacco better or not than the fresh version.

    Gawith Hoggarth Customer Conference 2023

Not open to public, it was mostly for our customers/retail partners but we opened up a few places for members of pipe smoking communities. Invite only. Will be doing similar again and other events with pipe clubs in the near future.
