Where, oh Where, is the St. James Flake?

St James' needs perique and there is a very limited supply of this. We are currently trying to deal with very pointless and bizarre regulations the UK government put in place for movement of raw leaf. Not helped by the fact most government departments are still working from home after covid and...

    Pipe Clubs

We have no dealings with Bob Gregory. I realise there was maybe some old hook up where a special blend was made for this pipe club but there is not now any current connection or agreement or communication with said pipe club and when I tried to contact them on another matter, there was no...

    Pipe Clubs

Not that many pipe clubs around and none I know of still active in Scotland. Not sure Kearvaig Pipe Club still exists. I tried to contact them and no response. No idea what the connection with Bothy Flake once was, but there is no connection now.

    Lakeland vs Aromatic

Well we 'Gawith's' have no clue what Lakeland tobacco's mean in terms of flavouring. Presumably it is tobaccos made on the edge of the Lake District but then seems to have evolved into the 'Granny pants flavour'. The term Lakeland does not really refer to the region except in cases like Lakeland...

What does the English "Smoke Free Target of 2030" Mean?

I did not say the Smoke Free target will be met. That is highly unlikely given the timescales but through constantly putting up taxes and free vape clinics they bring the number of reported smokers down (but have no idea of elicit trade). It is not in question that the number of cigarette...

What does the English "Smoke Free Target of 2030" Mean?

The Smoke Free Target of 2030 for the UK is not mass media. It is in government papers and working directives for anti-smoking.

What does the English "Smoke Free Target of 2030" Mean?

Maybe but duty is paid on tobacco, not accessories.

    Pipe Shops In West England

Yes school holidays should be avoided! Central Lakes and the main tourist spots tend to get very busy but there are plenty of places away from the more common destinations that remain relatively quiet and undiscovered. @jaingorenard I would be interested to see your photos. When were you here...

    Pipe Shops In West England

Can't smoke inside anywhere in the UK. But can smoke outside (at the moment). Although most of the time you will then need an umbrella and a hat on! The Cotswolds is quaint but for really dramatic scenery you need to come to the Lake District or Highlands of Scotland.

What does the English "Smoke Free Target of 2030" Mean?

Well something happened to Sam Gawith many years ago!!! Not sure British American Tobacco is actually that British. Its headquarters are in London but it began as a partnership between Imperial (British) and American Tobacco Company as a way too not trade in each other's territories. So...

What does the English "Smoke Free Target of 2030" Mean?

Its more that any legislation or new regs they bring in (and there are constantly lots of them) effect ALL tobacco products. Pipe smoking is inconsequential to the government but they do not distinguish between that and cigarettes.

What does the English "Smoke Free Target of 2030" Mean?

Pretty much what others have already stated. Its part of an overall drive to stop smoking, aimed at cigarettes, but pipe smoking and other tobacco products will also be caught by any legislation. But its misleading to say smoke free by 2030. The aim (which will never be reached) is to get down...

    London Pipe Shops

Yes lots of shops in London stock SG and GH stuff. There are the ones already mentioned and then several smaller convenience stores and small tobacconists.

Ferrous Tins inside Mylar - A Quick Recipe For Disaster?

Packing into tins is certainly a longer process. Some countries only take tins, others take a mixture. The UK market is much different in that many of the specialist tobacconist and convenience stores take bulk to the weigh out and sell in smaller amounts to their customers. Consumers in the UK...

Ferrous Tins inside Mylar - A Quick Recipe For Disaster?

And what about the people that like to buy the odd tin to smoke fairly soon after purchase, the shops that cannot or do not want to sell bulk and stock tins...this is only a problem for those that want to buy tins to cellar and long term store, it is not a problem for those that buy tins, smoke...

    Dear Gawith & Hoggarth

I did write a response on the other thread but then it was locked so could not post. We do most blends in bulk as well. Some only in bulk. However, there are issues with FDA rules in the States as to what you can introduce and change so not always possible. And there are many countries that...

    Sam Gawith

Where did I mention vacuum in the above. I said the tins seal well. A tin can seal well, with or without a vacuum. You want me to lie and say it was cost cutting when it wasn't. The old tins are simply not available. No similar tins can be found. So we either use the current tins which we feel...

Yes I am very familiar with the situation in Spain as I was handling the legal side of it and debt collection. Super, go enjoy your Capstan.

    Sam Gawith

The tin is sealed. In fact the current tins have a very good seal. You can open the tin, put the lid back on and its seals well. Perfect for keeping tobacco in good condition for it to reach the consumer and then so the consumer can open and reseal the tin while he enjoys the smoke.

    Sam Gawith

LOL.....glycol has always been added to the tobacco and is not added in any different amounts now as it was years go. However, SG used to be literally soaked in water and so much went mouldy. To stop this problem, we no longer add as much water to SG blends. We had a massive problem with our...
