    Folding And Stuffing Flakes

"Fold & Stuff" is a myth. It's never worked for anyone... ever. The old-timers are just having a laugh getting newbs to try to smoke tobacco in this fashion. If you've fallen victim to this prank, just take it as the rite of passage that it's meant to be and return to rubbing out your flakes.

    Buy a 6mm or a 9mm pipe?

Exactly. I find it just a bit too restrictive.

    Buy a 6mm or a 9mm pipe?

As a user of exclusively filtered pipes, I much prefer 9mm over 6mm.

Offensively High Resale Prices On Unicorn Blends

Yep. It's a good way to learn what you truly like. I do a monthly blind over zoom with a group of friends. It's always fun to see what you like when you have no preconceived notions.

Offensively High Resale Prices On Unicorn Blends

Have you seen "Made You Look" on Netflix? Apparently even the foremost art "experts" don't even know it when they see it.

Offensively High Resale Prices On Unicorn Blends

Exactly. People allow perception to dictate their experiences.

Offensively High Resale Prices On Unicorn Blends

That's true. And if this was a yacht forum, I'd completely agree. However, we're not talking about things priced only for the well to do. We're talking about things priced for wider consumption, whose prices have been driven through the roof due to the *perception* of value. I know a lot of...

Offensively High Resale Prices On Unicorn Blends

Mostly, I just find this stuff laughable. In the bourbon world, the average person who buys Pappy wouldn't choose it in a 4-glass blind against a bunch of sub-$50 bottles. It's no different with Cuban cigars, it's no different with wine, it's no different in the art world, it's no different...

    One Light Pipe

Great post. Although I don't think about relights, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've never noticed that it's also my preference to relight. I mostly smoke for 10 minutes, put the pipe down for 20 minutes, smoke it again for 15 minutes, etc. That said, I have noticed that some blends...

    One Light Pipe

I didn't really start enjoying pipe smoking until I stopped caring / paying attention to how many relights I was doing. I think the belief that most experienced pipe smokers light a bowl once and smoke it to a fine white ash, with zero relights, creates a sense of failure in new, would-be pipe...

Smoking a Pipe First Thing in the Morning

On weekends and holidays, I always start my morning with coffee and a bowl of tobacco.

Culling the Herd: Anyone Else Feel the Need to do So?

I've only been the hobby a little over 5 years, so I'm constantly culling and buying new, as I learn what I like best.

    Philadelphia Pipe Club?

Seems there's interest here, but no one is taking the lead. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I'd be happy to start rebooting this as we get closer to spring. That said, I'd also be very happy to stand by and let someone else do it.

The Breath Method as Described by Muttonchop Piper

I know this sounds weird, but I legit want to see that. It's in my Top 5 of things I want to see... Salma Hayek in my hotel room Everton win the Champions League World peace Bolt Thrower live Chasing Embers smoking a pipe

Tamping And The Bottom Of The Bowl?

I approach it the same way I use to with cigars; stop when I'm no longer enjoying it.

The Breath Method as Described by Muttonchop Piper

That's all fair. And I totally agree; people once needed to be more self-sufficient than they do now. And you're certainly not wrong; all of this is a product of its time. I just sense a certain, "old man yells at cloud" vibe, whenever the topic of YouTube & pipe smoking comes up. Which by the...

The Breath Method as Described by Muttonchop Piper

Does smoking a pipe (well) fit the description of "self-explanatory"? Cigar smoking does. I would suggest that the great disparity (in popularity) between the two hobbies is, at least in some part, due to the fact that pipe smoking isn't self-explanatory. That aside, I'm not sure it's even about...

The Breath Method as Described by Muttonchop Piper

I find it strange how much crap Muttonchop and similar YT contributors take on the forums. His breath smoking video has 200K views. So he's clearly providing a service to the community and helping novice smokers along their journey. vBulletin forums like this have become antiquated and younger...

When You Get a New Pipe?

I know that forum is fairly split on the concept of dedicating pipes. For those of you who do dedicate pipes to a specific blend or blend type, how do you determine what a new pipe is going to be dedicated to? Is it by shape? Do you smoke a handful of favorites through it, to see what it's best...

    Do You Ash?

My technique is such that I only ever need a single match and I smoke with a cadence so perfected that no ash is created and the bowl is clean enough to eat out after my last draw. Hope that helps.
