    On Virginia's Northern Neck

Welcome from Hampton Roads! As one who also spends quite a bit of time on a boat i am familiar with the challenges. Note that aros smell great when smoking but I found leave a pretty good stink behind. Similarly Latakia blends taste great but usually offend the non smokers. Result is that...

Pack Like Drinking Through a Straw?

Yep, cigar or filtered cigarette...I think the straw analogy is more to say you want to be more like water than a milkshake. Actually packing to water pressure may be too much, but if your eyes are bugging out when you try to draw then it's way too tight and may result in tongue bite.

    Cultivating a Taste for Tobacco

I will expand on anotherbob's advice. I did not power through blends that I clearly did not like for whatever reason; such as flavor, intensity of the smoke, bitey or whatever. However, sticking to the same family has merit. For example, if you try to smoke say 507c Virginia Slices after...

    Smoking a Pipe with GERD/Reflux

This is NOT medical advice. From what you say you might have a hiatal hernia. Smoking can relax the lower esophageal sphincter which will let that blob of acid or food pass back into your stomach. Ask your doctor to check at your next exam.

How Many Open Tins is Too Many?

And if you insist, the answer is 42.
  18. TakeThisCobAndStuffIt

How Many Open Tins is Too Many?

There really isn't an answer to this. If you are going to smoke them before opening another then you only want what you will smoke in a couple of weeks open and in tins. If you want to sample what you have then probably best to jar or mylar so if it takes a while to circle back your tobacco...

    Only One Blend

Well, when I first transitioned from cigars to pipes I spent about a year trying about 100 different blends and types. I also acquired a number of pipes. As my preferences became clear, I actually narrowed down to 2 blends and ultimately a single pipe. I still have all of the blends I sampled...
