Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

I now regret having started this thread about what was for me a very enjoyable pipe evening. See you all in Chicago for what I'm sure will be a great show.

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

I started this thread with a positive vibe, but I guess haters gonna hate. As far as Harrelson showing off his “new SUV,” my suggestion is that rather than be jealous get up off the couch and get yourself a slice of the American Dream, too.

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

Well, I suppose even his Ph. D in history just can’t overcome your regional linguistical bias. Your loss.

Dr. Alan Harrelson Visits Chesterton’s in Steubenville, Ohio

Alan Harrelson of The Pipe Cottage visited Chesterton’s in Ohio yesterday and held a blending session with about 30 pipers in attendance. The new proprietary blend is named for St. Bede and has a healthy dose of Latakia. An impromptu banjo and bluegrass session followed.

    Rouxgaroux: A Rexminderx

I got my pound of the recent Rouxgaroux blend from Ernie Q yesterday. It smoked full of flavor out of the bag and reminded me how much I enjoy red Virginias and Periquel

    C&D’s Palmetto Balkan

I bought four 8-ounce tins of Palmetto Balkan from two sites upon its release this week.. My plan is to smoke one throughout the summer and cellar the other three. I love that they are individually numbered. My initial impressions are that it was a bit dry out of the tin but ready to smoke. It...

    Sara Eltang Pipes

Before I read the book about Tom Eltang (It’s Good To Be A Pipemaker), I just assumed Sara Eltang was a relative who made her own line of pipes. When I learned that it’s a line made by Tom and named for his daughter I bought one and it arrived today. I can’t wait to smoke it. Has any one else...

Armellini Wax-Sealed “Chastity Twine” To Verify Unsmoked Status

I bought this pipe as new old stock from an old pipe shop in Akron, Ohio. Has anyone seen something similar to this “chastity twine?” I’m told that Sasseini did something similar to its high-end pipes in the 1980s. Thanks. (click on photos to enlarge)

Do You have a Pipe You can’t Bring Yourself to Smoke?

Tho Ancoretta series has two panels, one on each side of the bowl. Here are two other Castello panels I’ve yet to smoke.

Third Pipe Of A Set From Simon

I really like that Simon numbers all his pipes on the bag & stamps the year with “Made in London.” These three are #828, 840 and 858.

Living My Best Cigar Life. —Moundsville, WV

I’m glad you mentioned Chesterton‘s in nearby Steubenville Ohio (about 35 miles away north up the Ohio River.) Good foot traffic from nearby Franciscan University (GK Chesterton was a pipe smoking Catholic theologian). It’s a pretty fancy build out. Matt Fradd of the huge YouTube channel...

Show Off Your Castello Pipes Here!

To follow up on this Ancoretta series, I’ve posted a photo of 5 below. Note the Castello “bar” vs the black “dot” on the white stem. The Castello Ancoretta series is a numbered collection Castello produced in 2023 in a limited edition of 120 pieces. The large treble hook silver embellishment is...

    The Five Families

Your post made me reach for this Radice. Great smoker. And yes, Cavicchi is another overlooked classic Italian pipe.

New Study Aims to Reduce Pipe-Smoking in the U.K.

Thanks for the link. This excerpt was also interesting; “ According to a study of American males published in 2010, there is no difference in mortality risk between cigar smokers and non-smokers once you adjust for cigarette smoking and other confounding variables. A subsequent study, also from...

Living My Best Cigar Life, in Moundsville, WV, about 10 miles south of Wheeling near the Ohio River. I visited this newish brick and mortar today. Great tinned pipe tobacco selection and a super helpful owner. I picked up 10 tins: 1. Germain‘s Royal Jersey Dark Cavendish. 2. Germain‘s Royal...
