    Ballsy Move

Factories have been copying Peterson, Savinelli, and Stanwell shapes for decades. You can't copyright or protect shapes. Our exclusive brands are made by three different factories and we're very pleased with the quality of manufacture. The engineering has been very good, the prices have been...

Please Tell Me about Swedish Snus

I just recently moved into a place that's much better for me, my girlfriend, and her mother but the lease calls for no smoking in the house and I've been working from home for the last year. I've been using General Mint or Wintergreen and it's been perfect for my use. I have a nice place to...

Trout Stream Has To Be Blended At Home Now

Here's the lowdown on why this came about. The FDA wanted proof of sales prior to 2/15/2007 to grandfather a blend. As most of you know we had a different parent company before 2013 and I contacted them to get some sales records as proof. They had a problem with their long-term records and...

Who Buys Brylon? How Bad Is It?

My first pipe was The Pipe in a red pot shape. It smoked so hot that I was ready to quit but my father saw the pipe and said that if I was going to smoke a pipe I should get a real pipe. He brought me to his tobacconist and got me a bent briar and some Latakia blends. The Pipe was never smoked...

How is a "Scottish" Blend Different From An English?

Generally, I find that to be true. Otherwise, it would be hard to detect the Cavendish. That was my guideline for any Scottish-type blends I made. Russ

How is a "Scottish" Blend Different From An English?

When I think of Scottish blends, I think of a light-medium Latakia blend with plenty of Orientals and some unflavored black cavendish. I'm guessing the name came from the Rattray's blends of this style (Red Rap, Black Mallory, etc.) I agree with this also and MM965 falls into this category...

    What Defines an "American" Blend?

I would go along with primarily Burley, possibly with smaller amounts of Virginia, and even less condimental tobaccos (Orientals, Latakia, Perique). Russ

    IM Corona Flame Shrinking

The thing that most often is the cause of a shrinking flame is Ember's second line. If you don't turn the flame adjustment down before refilling, the flame will gradually get smaller. Russ

    Fans of H&H

We wholesale the Marquee Series to other retailers but really haven't considered doing it with any of the other H&H tobaccos. I'll mention it to our wholesale division. Russ

    Fans of H&H

Viprati is a misunderstood tobacco in some ways. I never said that this is supposed to be like Three Nuns. That was assumed by the mention of fire-cured which a lot of people assumed was Kentucky. It's not. It's a fire-cured mellow Burley to add a bit of body. Some people also assume that it's...

    Fans of H&H

Yes, he does post here from time to time. Seriously though, thanks for the kind comments and I try to draw from all feedback, good or bad. I haven't been posting as much because I've been working on redesigning our Baraccini, Viking, Roma, Crown, and Forseti pipes, and we'll have three new lines...

    Your First Pipe & Tobacco

My first pipe came as part of a package. It was a red pot The Pipe that came with two pouches of Borkum Riff. It smoked horribly wet and was impossible to handle once the pipe was lit. I was ready to quit, but my father noticed it and took me to his tobacconist and bought me a bent rusticated...

Blenders That Use PG And To What Degree

I find it puzzling that H&H is rated 3 since most people comment on the relative dryness of the blends. The only H&H blends with any PG are the aromatics (and there aren't that many) because the PG is used as a carrier for the flavorings. The rest of the blends contain no PG. Russ

    Blending Tobacco with Cigar Leaf

A small amount of cigar leaf added to Virginias can help remedy one big issue with Virginias. They tend to have a thin smoke so some people start puffing faster to get more smoke. Cigar leaf produces a lot of smoke, so adding some can solve that "problem". Also, it will add some body to make it...

Pipes & Cigars Debacle - Part II

I'm not directly involved in customer service, but I've come on in other threads and posted my email address so I can help to resolve issues. If any of you run into a problem with P&C, please write me at and I will do everything I can to help you. If you send me an email...

Which Are Your Favorite Coffee Blends

I drink most of my coffee at work. We bought a machine that grinds the beans just before brewing. It's a blade grinder so the grind isn't perfect but it's miles better than pre-ground coffee. We use good ol' Eight O'Clock and it makes a very nice cup. Hype or not, I really enjoy Blue Mountain...
