    Morning Blends

I want it strong and simple in the morning. C&d dark burley is what I smoke

    What are You Reading Now?

Rereading one of my faves by Naipaul after many years

Why is There no Bad Gasoline Today?

My dad, who worked as a petroleum distributor for decades, never seems to have a problem with some tiny gas station out in the middle of nowhere that might not have much turn over, but when he sees a transport filling the tanks—even at a major travel center—he gets nervous. He says it stirs...

    Empty pipe

I agree. If I am smoking a ribbon that’s even lightly cased/topped or pg’d, I will do something close to a gravity fill—and it’s great. Far more often I’m smoking a dry, unadulterated ribbon by c&d—dark burley is my fave. I much prefer this with a fairly tight pack. Same for some of my...

Blends Similar to Nightcap (Latakia w/ Perique)?

I use a digital scale to get the proportions right, then mix the tobaccos thoroughly with my fingers in a large bowl. Then I jar it for a few weeks. To me This last step is important, especially with blends involving perique. Oh, and keep notes. That way you can tweak it to your tastes

Blends Similar to Nightcap (Latakia w/ Perique)?

I concoct a nightcapesque blend, but with a burley base: 60% dark burley, 25% Izmir, 10% perique, 5% Latakia. It’s like a cross between Big nBurley and Nightcap

    Road-trips.

I love road trips if I can tent camp. I love them even more on a motorcycle. I rode from Florida to Colorado Rockies and back on my little bike , tent camping all the way, a couple of summers ago. It was fantastic

    Favourite Corn Cob?

    Thanks!! I’ll try that!

    Favourite Corn Cob?

The Eaton. The .6 diameter bowl is perfect for the tobacco I smoke. I think it smokes ever so slightly better than the pony express (though I love that one too)because it is natural, with no varnish. I’ve been smoking my Eaton regularly for over five years. I get a 45 minute smoke out of it...

    What are You Reading Now?

Much much better than his movie, in my opinion

    Cob cleansing?

This is my approach too. The only thing I do differently is this: when I realized how much moisture collects in the shank of an mm, I began removing the stem and swabbing out the inner shank with a folded pipe cleaner every smoke. The inner diameter of these shanks—even the non-filter ones—is so...

    What are You Reading Now?

Every decade or so I read something by Paul Theroux—and I am reminded why I dislike his writing. This one is no exception.

    What are You Reading Now?

One of my all time favorites! I love his Enigma of Arrival too

    Cob cleansing?

I do this sometimes. I prefer it to using alcohol. It has done no harm to my cobs. But then my favorite cobs are "naturals"--no varnish and, I think, no plaster to mess up.

    Cob cleansing?

I’ve tried cleaning cobs with everclear. It didn’t hurt them and I suppose it cleaned out some gunk, but cob is so sponge like, absorbing so much tar and oil, I don’t think alcohol will ever clean one the way it cleans briar. It would be a lot of work assuming it’s possible . Now I just clean...
