Any Tips on Learning to Play the Banjo?

Well... I've had my share of kitchen mandolin accidents and now know better and wear one of those oyster shucking gloves when I use mine.

Somewhat Cheesy 70s FM Radio Songs Which Get You

I miss the days when you could only have just one tooth yet still be successful as an entertainer.

Btw, what is that groovin' grandpa gif from? Looking at him makes me feel like my apartment smells like cinnamon buns are baking.

Yes! I love the Buffet now that I'm older. Some girl who I use to carpool to middle school with would play him every morning and it drove me nuts at the time. His cover of Pacing the Cage sounds so much like the original though I have a hard time distinguishing them.

That would be an archetype in my opinion. Freaks and Geeks made excellent use of that song btw.

Now... that is sacrilege. T. Rex were pioneers and made amazing albums unlike Bowie who just managed to make (many) amazing singles.

    Core Memory from Traveling?

The girl who sat next to me on a bus between Sao Paulo and Rio that I got jiggy with but told me we had to leave the bus without acting like we knew each other as her boyfriend was picking her up...

Yea, I feel that. I mean... he is singing about a "rocket man". It's a tough call. I think I'll sit on the sofa and contemplate it for the remainder of the day. I never realized that Elton didn't write any of his lyrics. I recently heard an interview with his long term lyricist who has a book...

Yea... I was thinking something similar. I'm not really much of a Elton listener but I don't think he fills the criteria (personally) but it is a highly subjective topic anyways.

Any Tips on Learning to Play the Banjo?

I don't but that sounds fun. Been considering an electric mandolin myself.

Love me some Sailing with Christopher Cross which never fails to sail me someplace that feels like walking barefoot on a secluded beach with a pair of flat front khakis rolled up Prufrock style while polaroids of my life fall out of the sky and form a mosaic of bitter sweet livin' before...

How do You Watch your Stories? Now With Recommendations!

Brian, this interview with Hal Harley might interest you esp. regarding your DVD collection (which I understand and appreciate). One of his films is basically unavailable now as it was made with a studio which has no interest in making it available, etc...

Even so... I wonder how ambient light effects the HD as we have windows in every room so there is always some amount of ambient light. I will say that the speaker is pretty damn good on this thing- we have speakers in the room we could hook it to but never bothered.

I get all of that. Actually, being in a NYC apartment space is actually the reason we got the projector vs. a flatscreen TV. We have a pull-down screen which is just in front of a bookshelf and keep the projector just to the side of the sofa when we aren't using it. While the definition isn't...

How do You Watch your Stories? Now With Recommendations!

Have you considered getting a digital projector? We have this one, not sure how HD it is to be honest, but it's rather nice to watch films on. Oddly, I still like to watch my stories (aka British television shows) on a smaller screen. I don't know why I develop so many strange preferences but...

That looks great. Maybe I'll watch that tonight. I enjoyed The Unbelievable Truth just as much as Henry Fool, maybe even more so, and would go as far as calling it a "masterpiece". Check out this scene with a young Ede Falco. It's hilarious. @jpmcwjr I agree about Being There. Whenever I...

How do You Watch your Stories? Now With Recommendations!

Well, hope the VHS isn't wavey or such. I guess you can just blow on it like we use to do in olden days. I wish I had a garage or basement to put in a clunky TV and VHS player. I feel like I'm talking about getting a hand crank phonograph player or something. I only started to realize in the...
