It's been a while since I used and looked at mine, but if I recall, I think it should go up to about 2/3s of the "window"...
So you may want to lengthen it. Otherwise it depends on how much flame you prefer

I agree about 2/3 of the window and see if you are happy with the flame.

If not just adjust the length accordingly. You can’t really mess it up because the unused wick inside the casing is actually quite long and it won’t be a big deal if you need to trim it several times to get the flame you prefer. If you use it all up simply buy a replacement wick for a small price and reinstall it in the lighter. Only takes a few minutes to do.

Thats about how mine is and I'm happy with it. If you don't like how it lights just pull it up more. Its more about what you like than whats wrong or right as long as its not a huge flame scorching everything.

looks good to me! The next step in life, is learning that you dont need the pipe insert for your pipes! Another life changing moment for me.

About same as mine. I trimmed little at a time until the flame came out at the center. But I only smoke outside, so the god damned flame is never at the center.

The wonderful part about a Zippo lighter is that if the wick is in the window, it'll burn. They do tend however to keep mine about halfway.

Is it okay to have a larger flame ? I'm just afraid that it will burn the pipe that's all
Thanks

Zippo flame is even softer than Bic. It will flare up, but the flame will point up through the round hole. And when you apply the flame to tobacco, you don't want to touch the Zippo or keep it too near the pipe rim for too long. To manage the flame size, trim that wick to about center of the round hole or slightly shorter. That will give you smaller, more manageable flame.

I haven't used a fluid Zippo lighter in probably 30 years or more, except when I'm fishing. When you're out in the boat on a windy lake, it's hard to beat a Zippo fluid pipe lighter. I usually kept my wick about 2/3 the length of the hole.

My favorite lighter is a Zippo butane pipe lighter. They made them for a few years in the 1980s and mine is still going strong.
The reason I don't normally use a fluid lighter for my pipe is that I can usually taste the lighter fluid and I find that takes away from the Flavor of the tobacco.
