location, location, location...

In the fish-processing town of Unalaska there is one eagle for (about) every five people.

They call 'em "harbor pigeons".

I'm sure a bluejay would draw a crowd, though. lol
There's probably one eagle for every 10,000 people here in Florida. And I've never gotten within 15' of one before.

I love encounters like this.
During summer I sleep with my windows and doors wide open and one morning, a few weeks ago, there was a caterpillar right here on the floor. An Acronicta aceris, supposed to be quite rare.
Makes the day just a little more special.

I pulled into a wooded, picnic-table-equipped roadside rest stop one time in central Montana. (It was a low-traffic 2-lane state highway, not an Interstate.)

When I got about 20 yards from the picnic table, I noticed one of these standing in the middle of it with a shredded animal of some sort pinned between his feet.

There was no one else around.

He was glaring at me, and a shimmering word balloon formed in the air above his head.

It was very easy to read. What did it say? "This is MY spot, and if you don't keep driving... I... will... kick... your... ass."

What did I do?

Kept driving, of course.
