It's a shape name, like billiard or Lovat. They were quite popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. My guess is that it was named for Charles Warren
Charles Warren, what is the connection to him and the shape or pipes? I’d love to know more.

Like I wrote, it’s just a guess, but look up General Sir Charles Warren. Given his achievements and the era in which he lived, he seems the most likely candidate to be so honored.
The connection might be Warren’s shaft (yeah, I know…)
So far I haven’t been able to other Warrens of like stature. (again, yeah, I know…)

I did look up the various orders he was awarded or recognized membership to. Quite impressive for the time and also interesting to reflect on given well, the times. One day there may be a shape named after you. In fact, we should try to make that happen. Lol.

So here are some photos from the Dunhill. The inner tube goes flush with the draft hole.

I see antique meerschaums like this semi-regularly, in the quarter-bent variety with an egg-shaped outer bowl. I'm very glad to know what to properly call them, shape-wise! They look very curious to me. I don't love them or want one, but I like them in a way and I'll bet they smoke cool and dry.

I have the Savinelli 'Captain Warren'. Wouldn't have bought it, but I already had an armful of pipes I was hauling out of an antique mall stall, and figured I'd grab that one as well. The bowl insert was so loose that it fell out, hit the floor and cracked. Some day I'll repair it. No pics, but it's a common pipe that you can google.

I also have a meerschaum that's similar.
