This little guy is a nice little cleaned up GBD Virgin volcano shaped bowl. Nothing happened when this virgin was sacrificed to the volcano ??

Almost bought one of those GBD seconds, a Medley from Iwan Ries for $30, or $20 if you bought three. None of the shapes quite clicked, and they warned about nicks and fills on the smooth ones. Elsewhere on the site, they have GBD's for half price, for $60. Just click on half-price pipes.

I got this cased set from England. I used the listing pics because it is actually in that same condition. No oxidation. The case seems to fit quite well. The stamping on the bulldog kind of sucks, it is very light. I guess Marcee was for the French market and was made until a few years after WWII.

I've wanted an interesting Churchwarden for some time and have missed out on at least two Barlings with albatross stems in the past. I fell in love with the birdseye and army mount of this GBD and it seemed special enough to warrant acquiring.

I'm guessing it's relatively early—there's no model number stamped on it; unfortunately, the MRCL hallmark is very worn. Based on the positioning, the left symbol is completely gone; what I'm assuming is the middle symbol appears to be an oval (perhaps an oval 925 mark?); and I have no idea what the third one is.

The right side of the shank is stamped "A La Havane Grenoble"—my best guess is this was a tobacco shop in Grenoble, France.

Any help dating this would be much appreciated! Any tidbits of relevant info or guesstimates most welcome.
