My 3 biggest genres are Virginia, Virginia.Perique and Virginia /Burly.Kentucky.
Now I have to pick one and I will list them all which will maybe give some an idea to try one. All of my favorite Virginia's are flakes as for me ribbons and other cuts seem to burn very quickly. I also have 2 aromatics which are Molto Dolce and Blood Red Moon. I also have two flakes that I would consider aromatics which are Mac Baren Modern Virginia Flake and Peterson University Flake, both are quite tasty.

When I sit down to smoke I like it to be at least for 1.5 hours
My favorite genre is Virginia. I have the most bends in that category. I have found over the years that there seems to be more variety and more choices. Here is my list. The TR next to a name means no drying time for a fresh tin. I like a like a little moisture in my flakes as I feel they burn longer and gives me more flavor.

Fribourg&Treyer Cut Virginia Plug TR
Fribourg and Treyer Vintage TR
Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown FlakeTR
Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake
Wessex Brown Virginia Flake TR
Wessex Gold Virginia Flake TR
Wessex Gold Brick TR
Wessex Gold Slice TR
Capstan Blue Flake TR
2003 Capstan Yellow ready rubbed. I wouldn't have bought it but for a 2013 at a normal price I couldn't resist.
Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake
Samuel Gawith full Virginia Flake
Samuel Gawith Kendal Plug
Hamborger VeermasterTR
Dunhill Flake TR
Astley’s no. 44 Dark Flake TR
Astleys 109
John Aylesbury Luxury Flake now called Classic Flake TR
Rotary Navy Cut TR discontinued
Brigham Klondike Gold TR -discontinued
Butera Royal Vintage: Dark Stoved= Discontinued

Bob, one of my favorite genres are Vapers. Escudo was the first blend that opened my eyes as to how good a pipe could be and that was over 20 years ago, I still smoke it today. In fact I just finished a 2008 tin that was incredible.

Since we are entering summer (in the northern hemisphere) My favorite genre is VA/PER. When we start drifting into winter, my favorite genre will be Latakia/VA/OR/Per. Mobile cual piumma al vento, year after year.

Virginia flake is my favorite but Va/Pers and Va/Lat are also genres I reach for.
The difficulty is finding, what I want: as little casing as possible, no topping and quality Virginas that blend with the Perique and Latakia.

SG Balkan Flake and Commonwealth Mixture.
SG St. James Flake or Plug.
SG Best Brown Flake or Kendal Plug.
Dan Tobacco Skipper's Flake and Hamborger Veermaster.
Germain's Brown Flake.
STG Escudo Navy De Luxe.
Solani Virginia Flake 633.
McClelland's Aurora, Boston 1776, N0.22 and N0. 2015 Virginia Perique Flake, all discontinued.

I often find that my favorite is whatever I am smoking at a particular moment...overall, I would say a VaPer flake such as PS Luxury Navy Flake is hard to beat. No matter the weather or circumstance that stuff always delivers what I am looking for in a good smoke.

There's no genre I dislike altogether. There's something, usually more than one blend, in every category that I find pleasing. But burley comes first, whether single leaf, English blends with burley, a vast range of C&D and D & R blends with burley, etc. But a good Virginia or Va/Per is a beautiful thing too.

I like strong blends with 'natural' tobacco flavor, to name a few:
Sam Gawith Best brown, a real distinct sweetness
Orlik Golden Sliced, the best deal in pipe tobacco
Escudo
McConnell Folded Flake
Burley Flakes like HH, Solani, Wessex
Peterson's Perfect Plug
Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake

I also like strong blends with an obvious topping, but you can still taste the tobacco, to name a few:
McConnell's Glen Piper, so 'old timey'
Peterson's University Flake, so berry
Erinmore Flake
any of the Gawith 'lakelands' particularly rum flake and glengarry
Pease haddo's delight
recently, orlik dark strong kentucky

I like some 'English' type blends, but not a huge fan
Pease Quiet Nights, Key Largo, Sextant
Seattle pipe club plum pudding
Presbyterian (but it bites me so)

I like Peretti's Cuban but it bites me also.

Not a fan of Aros like 1Q, but will have a bowl of wilke's occasionally
