I found Mark Domingues’ Lone Star Briarworks on Instagram, liked some of his pipes and figured I would give him a shot. And boy am I glad that I did! He runs a small pipe shop out of the Lone Star State of Texas, and I have been on a “Made in America” kick lately and decided to shoot him a dm about purchasing one of his pipes. I was delighted to find out that he is selling most of his pipes in the $105-120 range, and that’s with shipping included!
Mark is a great guy and his customer service is impressive, I asked him about a million questions about his pipes and their bowl sizes and diameters, materials he used etc and he was very patient and responsive. I went ahead and purchased a rusticated Rhodesian and I am beyond impressed.
I own a few Castello kkk sea rock Briar pipes and I love the look of that finish. Mark does a really good job with that style. He also has some smoother finishes that look wonderful. The Rhodesian that I purchased for $105 smokes like a charm! It’s ergonomic, handsome and rugged, utilitarian and charming. Since I recieved it, it has lived in the the pocket of my peacoat and has honestly and surprisingly become one of my favorite pipes. And you can’t beat that price for something handmade. Mark also makes some really good looking tampers as well.
The pipe was shipped very quickly and came in a literal pipe sock. I mean it was an actual sock with a draw string added to it. It got a few chuckles from the guys at the local cigar lounge, but I love it and I think it adds to the simple charm of Mark’s work!
I am posting some pictures below of my pipe and some of the other pipes that Mark has, if you are in the mood for an affordable, big ol Texas pipe, go ahead and reach out to Mark. His email is lonestarbriarworks@gmail.comand his insta is @lonestarbriarworks
