Looks to be a type or style of a opera pipe. I always hope for the original case with it. Dimensions?...

Yep, Opera pipe.Usually oval shapes,thinner bowls to easily slip inside of a coat pocket whilst at a social function...

These (and variants of an apple bowl and/or diamond shank) were not only opera pipes, but also the vogue in pipe shape/style for the Collegiate type around the turn of the century. Even Sears catalogs noted them as being "college style!" This is one of the few types I'm still hunting for. Great find, and I can't wait to see how it cleans up! That stem is most definitely bakelite, not amber, and could be a replacement but, if so, is exactly the shape of the original.
