Hahah, I love the “welcome to the land of Italian mid-grades”! Yes, it’s not the most robust design I’ve ever seen... Definitely not worth to going too far to restore it to the way it was. Of course my memory fails and as I can see from the picture of the one on eBay, it wasn't just a simple straight tenon connecting those two pieces. You can see the black ring between the two pieces of wood... And that's why I'm saying it would look as it was.- The-CaptainBlack

Hi Buzkirk, the part that broke is gone but it was basically a separate tube connecting the bowl and that intermediary wood part. mso489 says it's a ferrule. I'll take that.- The-CaptainBlack
