Pipe Maker Garret Woo on Radio Show of October 28, 2025

Not yet, just this one so far. It's certainly possible, I've numbered 192 pipes so far and I've only kept two.

Pipe Maker Garret Woo on Radio Show of October 28, 2025

First time on the show with Brian! I'm very gracious. I did a short little interview at the LVIPS 2024.

    Puffing like Dirty Harry

I like to use a pipe cleaner during sessions. Both for any moisture and for raising the bowl slightly after tamping and lighting. I seem to get good results giving the tobacco a little space underneath.

Watch Out or Watch on? Pt 2.

So, I'm still making pipes but I was recently fortunate to return to work at my old job. I wanted to mark the occasion with an older 1989 Rolex Datejust, ref. no. 16233 with a black dial.

Nothing here is posted for sale. This is a thread for others to show a pipe of mine if they have one.

The first thing I recommend getting is a book called PIMO’s Guide to Pipe Crafting at Home from https://vermontfreehand.com/books/. From there, I recommend starting with pre-drilled briar blocks and stems, also from vermontfreehand.com or rawkrafted.com. Ideally, you want to shape the briar with...

    Show Us Your pipesbywoo Pipes

In 2021, I took some time away from working as a durometer technician to learn how to make pipes. I've since returned to my old job but try to make at least one pipe per week. My style combines traditional shapes with muscular curves and metal accents. As of this post, I've completed 151 pipes...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2023?***

Hopefully it's OK to post what I'm smoking out of the pipes I've made now. Some Stokkebye's Resolution in one of my own billiards this afternoon.

    New Pipe I Finished

I really like the aesthetic of a pipe using the briar's plateau. Looks great!

    Favorite Virginia Tobaccos?

One blend I really like that I haven't seen recommended here yet is Ampersand Flake by L.J. Peretti. It's a slightly sweet, creamy, buttery, hay-like, straight Virginia similar to Stokkebeye's Evening Flake. I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't yet.

Crack in the Shank of my Savinelli Florence!

Does the crack go all the way through? You might be able to strengthen it with a little CA glue if you're careful and don't care how it looks. Otherwise, try not to disassemble it too often, especially if the stem has a tight fit.

Smoking some 2018 Dorchester this morning in my Altinay billiard.

Watch Out or Watch on? Pt 2.

Here is a Seiko 5 that I put together from from Ebay parts. I put in a nicer movement, polished the case, added a sapphire-crystal lens, and changed the strap.

Watching the storm come in over here on the West Coast and smoking some Dorchester in my Altinay nosewarmer.
