Meerschaum lined brier - Good - Bad -Ugly?

I just bought my 2nd Meerschaum lined Brier, a Brebbia Sun 301 Brebbia Sun 301. I'm on the fence as to if they give a better or worse smoke than "normal" pipes of either Meershaum or Brier, but my 1st smokes very well. I'm just wondering if I'm getting a short term gain by not having to...

    First Pipe Observation

I'm new myself, but I'm taking the "try 'em all" approach. When I find one I really like (so far MacBeren's Old Dark Fired is my #1) I will stock up on them, or by more from that line. I now have these from MacBeren; 7 Seas Regular Black Ambrosia Dark Twist Golden Extra HH Vintage Syrian...

Where Do You Find Good Deals on Pipes?

An interesting fact about numbersix's pointing out the pre-1980 Dr. Grebows is that the "drugstore" brand briers of the 80's many times used older brier than the premium pipes sold today due to the dwindling supply of the old growth trees. I got this info from a pipe book I'm reading.

What Kind of Wood is Dr. Grabow Made Of??

I've been trying to find a list of all of the various pipe materials with some order to pros/cons and with the exception of Briar, Meercham, clay and a few others I've come up empty. I've seen Applewood, Pear (Mr. Brog), Ebony, plastic, metal, glass, just about all the hardwoods, corncob, and...

    My Newest Pipe

Tennsmoker thanks for the link! I'm already drooling over some of them! Samanden, I have not smoked it yet, I think it came in the mail today though. I would like it to color well and look forward to every bowl I put toward it. I've not heard of a coloring bowl so I'll google that and see if...

    My Newest Pipe

I just picked this up off eBay and while I'm pretty sure I paid too much for it ($160) but I was looking for a meerschaum and really like the churchwarden style AND the claw types I've been seeing Mr. Brog is offering in pear wood and this pipe had all three aspects in one pipe! I had the...

Mac Baron's HH Old Dark Fired

I just tried this last night and I fell in love with it! I plan on stocking up as it's my first "Favorite" tobacco. I also glad that my first love didn't end up named "Grandma's kitchen feet" or something, Old Dark Fired has a nice tone to it.

    Tasting the Smoke

Great tips everyone, thanks. I did slow way down and using HH Old Dark Fired was able to taste the spicy flavor they speak of as well as something else I had not noticed.
