*** What Are You Smoking?*** (March 2018)

Sam Gawith's Cob Plug, in a cheap and cheerful basket Lovat. Picked up 25g samples of both Cob Plug and Full Virgina Plug. Both absolutely excellent, and I'll likely go and grab a full 250g box of one of them before long...

    Who Has The Fewest Pipes?

At present, I have four pipes. A Peterson Donegal Rocky, a wee Chacom, a Horn-Stemmed Ropp, and an MM cob. Of those, only the Pete and Ropp get any serious use - the cob has been smoked twice in the last six months, and the Chacom, as beautiful as it is, I just don't get on with the...

    Finally Tried A Cob...

As much as I don't like the look or feel of cobs, I must admit they seem to smoke marvellously. I ordered one just to see what the fuss was about (they're hard to come by here in the UK), and I really wanted to dislike it. But, the bloody thing is growing on me... The Mrs is at work, the kid is...

    Wet Shave Club

Depending on my mood - either an EJ89 or a shavette for me. My proper Straight needs a good honing before it's back to shave ready sharpness. For the DE/Shavette, I was a fan of Derby blades, but picked up a pack of unbranded blades from Boots that seem to work better. They're allegedly...

    Pipe Leather?

I use a Peterson Avoca leather pipe case. Mine is only a two pipe case, but I'm sure they do three and four pipes as well. Looks beautiful, seems well made and has put up with a good amount of abuse over the last year or so of use. Only downfalls - the snap on tobacco pouch is useless (like...

***What Are You Smoking *** (April 2015)

First smoke for about three weeks, due to work and family commitments. G.L. Pease Six Pence in my Peterson Churchwarden. Outstanding tobacco, and a thoroughly relaxing hour. Perfect.

    Quiet Nights

Same as tarheel1, I fold and stuff. Same for all my flakes, I find they smoke better that way. And I'm lazy and don't fancy the extra prep of rubbing out flakes!

What Do Pipe Smokers Do For A Living?

Logging geologist out on North Sea oil rigs. Basically I analyse samples of the rock we drill though, and monitor a range of drilling parameters (speed, rpm, torque, pump outputs, that sort of thing). Been doing that for the last three years, before that it was University. Rigs do have smoking...

    Quiet Nights

I managed to sneak a tin of Quiet Nights (along with a tin of Six Pence) past the scoundrels of UK Customs, and have to join the QN fan club as well. Easily one of the best blends I have smoked. Marvellous stuff. My only problem is going to be getting hold of more when my tin runs dry!

    US tobacco... ship to UK?

I've successfully ordered from smokingpipes.com a couple of times, and avoided the wrath of UK customs. Only small amounts, mind you, I'm not sure I'd risk a large tobacco order. Which is a bloody shame, because I've fallen in love with a couple of G.L Pease blends! It is a shame more places...

    Any other non-smokers here?

Another non-smoker! I might get away with 4 bowls a month! 4 a week is unheard of for me (alas!)

    The black Swan uk

I've used smoke-king and J.N Barber (smoke.co.uk) with success. Both spot in shipping, decent selection and fair prices. Also, the Barber B-Line pipes are fairly good. I've also put in a couple of orders from smokingpipes.com, and been pleasantly surprised by the speed of delivery.

    Clan aromatic uk

Where abouts in the UK are you based? I'm a fellow UK'er and could probably send you some samples of different tobaccos. As for Clan - I've not tried it, I usually stick to the tinned stuff I'm afraid. I order my tobacco online - smoke-king.co.uk and have always had great service.

Samuel Gawith / Gawith Hoggarth Merger Confirmed: Exclusive Interview

I'm guessing the pipe tobacco machinery is going, but the Snuff machinery is staying as a museum exhibit. As I understand, the wooden cogs in the snuff gear got damaged a few years back so they probably haven't been using it for a while.
