    Oh Joy

If Gliers or Finkes won't ship, there is always the possibility of Jungle Jim's. I'm fairly confident someone there would throw a frozen brick of this through the post, if persuaded right... Also, to clarify: goetta is pork and pin oats, seasoned and pressed. Breakfast meat plus carbs...

Ever Like a blend but not for the price?

I can see where the OP is coming from, even though there are a lot of valid statements about going for exactly what you want, or for the general cost effectiveness of this hobby (most especially for US citizens). One thing that needs to be addressed is the palate at play. If you do not have a...

    Asthma and Pipe Smoking?

I have a life-long issue with asthma, chronic bronchitis, and allergies. Since i quit cigs this hasn't been a major issue, and damned if i am giving up pipe or cigar; they are worth it for the mental health. One thing i would watch specifically is clenching; I find that clenching leads to a...

    Crown Achievement Pipe Help

I have one en route, but, if it is Hilson made like they suggest, it should be a very small push stinger, which is easily pulled and pitched. Based on the Hilson Vintage I had picked up from P&C prior, at least.

    Anyone Speak German?

So... are the Germans smoking out of your stash? No? Who cares, more for you! And, yes, it is both neat and unsettling that people who you have never met nor interacted with are talking about you. Wonders of the Web and all that, I guess.

Barclay Rex (NYC) Doesn't Accept Coupons

Coupons are a pain. Even if you are established, it adds another layer to the billing chain, and the retailer is essentially accepting a check that they may not get paid on for two or three months. Not to say Brex played it well, there was certainly room for improvement on their response, but I...

    Pipe Possibilities for 2014

Add another 30 pounds to the stash before someone on the federal level does something drastically stupid to the American citizenry. That is my personal goal, having hit 30 on my first 365 days. I would LIKE to own a meer and possibly something more exotic, like morta or rosewood, by 2015...

    Chinese/Generic Pipes?

My understanding is ther are a few Chinese artisans making surprisingly good work, but by and large you should really stay away from Chinese pipes in general. Your better bet in the "gee this is cheap and very foreign, will it smoke well?' arena is the eastern Eurpoean stuff (like Mr. Brog et al.).

    Light Weight Pipes

All of my Alexander Zavvos briars, and my only GBD, a prehistoric canadian with a saddle bit, are stupid light, and SO easy to clench. The GBD is a tad thin, but if the pipe is light enough to clench successfully, you can keep a slow and even light cadence to the smoke and never really get it...

    Lost Manly Arts

Speaking well but plainly. Most people who can speak well speak in circles, and many of the rest just cannot or choose not to speak well at all.

    Is this normal?

The "happy and relaxed" is the nicotene settling in; like the buzz from good wine, that is not strictly why we follow this, but it's a not altogether unpleasant side effect. Also, the act of smoking itself is calming and meditiative, the cadence of the draw and the reflection on each texture...

If You Want to Increase Your Rotation Without Spending Too Much...

True that! I WANT high end artisan pipes. I also want a Lambo. Life can be cruel sometimes. In the interim, you can learn good technique and get many many hours of pleasure out of some of these guys. As of right now, i have no pipe i paid over a hundred for, and three which cost me over...

    Dates on Tinned Tobacco

Aren't Orlik blends MMDDYY? Or is it YYDDMM? Either or, your Escudos and OGS's have a 6 digit on them, and one of those is correct AFAIK.

A Big Thanks to The Old Cajun (Bradley with pics)

Well done, Bradley! True Southern hospitality right there, my friend! o)

Mr. Brog "Old Boy" - Filter

It's purpose is to be removed and placed in a box, as fond rememberances of your aquisuition. o) Seriosly, it's called a "stinger", and is supposed to reduce moisture in the smoke during it's path up the stem, smoothing things out and reducing bite. In theory. Some people love them, I...
