What Is the Single Most Special Blend, or Tin, in Your Stash?

For me it's a 2010 purchased, older styled rectangular tin of Peterson's Irish Flake. I kept one aside while the rectangular tins (which I prefer) were still being used. I'm glad I did as I noticed a change of taste in Irish Flake once Kolhasse Kopp no longer produced it. In spite of this, Irish...

    John Aylesbury Dragon Flake

I first saw this on smokingpipes.com and thought it interesting. It arrived in a round tin. Tin aroma was that of maple and an essence reminding me of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies. I couldn't detect much of the vanilla, but the caramel was there in the background. The flakes were similar in size...

    Anyone Else Like Granger?

I've always enjoyed Granger over all the other OTC Burleys but it would always burn my palate (never my tongue) with what seemed like a chemical burn. Drying out the tobacco sufficiently lessened this somewhat but never eliminated it and that is a bummer as I do enjoy the taste and accompanying...

    Irish Flake's New Packaging

Deathmetal, I do think you're on to something re pushing the Virginia flake description. For me, as long as the smoke remains the same I'm certainly ok with it. And yes, the round tins seem to be better with regard to resealing once opened. My first experience with Ir Fl was with the smaller...

    Irish Flake's New Packaging

Irish Flake is my number 1 tobacco and I currently received my 91st and 92nd tins respectively. I have noticed on a few of the vendor sites that the image of the tin has changed - round has replaced the square. It's description has changed as well. No longer does it say, "A full bodied blend...

    WARHORSE BAR/GREEN HAS ARRIVED!

Got a tin of each last week and each is simply exquisite. The bar had a nice chocolate cake taste with a hint of tonquin/heliotrope/valerian root(?) giving it a subtle, but different take on vanilla and a bit of cherry at times. The green had everything the bar had along with what tasted like...

    News Concerning FDA Changes

After reading the first part of mso489's opening line, "Rediscovery of great old brands,..," I was wondering if there might be a problem with the availability of some of the old codger blends (Sir Walter Raleigh, Granger, etc.) that are no longer made in the USA, but in Denmark (?).

    News Concerning FDA Changes

I contacted Mac Baren about 2 weeks ago and asked how the new FDA rulings would affect obtaining Mac Baren blends here in the USA. Per George responded and suggested I contact Brian Levine at Sutliff. I did so and here is his response: "At this point we do not know the exact affects the new FDA...

Peterson's Irish Flake: Review with Pictures.

Yes Jay, G&H Dark Flake is surely in that category. You might want to try EA Carey's (UK site) Dark Flake No 7. I would place that one between Irish Flake and Stirling Flake, but closer to the Stirling. I find the No 7, IrFl, and StFl to be siblings from the same parentage. Happy puffing!

Peterson's Irish Flake: Review with Pictures.

I started what I believe was the first thread on this forum comparing Irish Flake with Stirling Flake. To my tastes, Stirling Flake is what IrFl tasted like when I first started smoking IrFl..first year of its production and in the smaller rectangular tins. Since the time K&K no longer had...

    Erinmore Mixture vs. Flake

I prefer the flake over the mixture as the flake is a more fuller bodied smoke for me. The mixture does have a more pronounced room note but can become a bit ashy tasting past mid bowl.

    Old Tin Of London Dock

London Dock was the first tobacco I ever purchased when I started piping in 1976. Smoked it in one of my father's Dr Grabow billiards. I smoked it regularly until it was no longer available. I never noticed the cherry. It was a mixture of burleys, virginia, perique and rum topped - no latakia as...

Peterson Irish Army Pipes and Gurgle

I've got 7 Peterson's of different types and love them all. However, I have a straight stemmed billiard ebony system pipe also with a military bit and it always gurgles; way before the half way point of the smoke. I thought because it was a straight stem it prevented the trap in the bottom of...
