    Putting A Pipe Out

My solution is to tamp down the tobacco, and slide a cleaner in the stem, then cover the bowl with my palm for a moment before placing my pipe in a pocket. If it is a quick stop I skip the pipe cleaner.

I Swear, I Was Possessed by PAD

I purchased a few briars off of ebay in the past week, with a couple auctions to close later today as well. nothing fancy, just some straight billiards from brands I didn't recognize. Additionally, I purchased several tins of tobacco, a pipe rack and a couple accessories from SP last night. I...

Anyone Else a Former Smokeless User?

I used Skoal straight long-cut for years, easily exceeding a can a day. (and even more on weekends) I tried to quit several times, but met with very little success until recently. My pipes have supplied me with so much more than just relief from nicotine withdrawals, and I no longer miss the...

    Dunhill Nightcap

Nightcap was one of my first tinned tobaccos, and I am extraordinarily fond of the blend. Even though I don't own many pipes yet, I have one dedicated to just this amazing mixture. As a reformed smokeless tobacco addict, I don't experience the nicotine in any extreme fashion. (though I did...

    Re-lighting question

In my limited experience, I've found this to be true. In particular, Captain Earle's Nightwatch crumble-cake produces an ash that appears to be denser than others I frequently smoke, completely extinguishing the ember unless I dump the ash. Rarely does the ash seem to add an undesirable flavor...

Can I Smoke With a "Bitten" Tongue?

Since the original post, I've had a couple less severe occurrences, and now I am enjoying my pipes pain free! All the flavors of the different blends are really coming alive as I learn to smoke slowly, and keep my tongue healthy. :D

    Coffee & a Pipe

I enjoy some Dumhill EMP or Standard Mixture with some Rogue Elephant Papua New Guinea. I am acquainted with the fellow who produces this coffee in small batches, and sells at farmers markets and to small local stores only. I worked briefly as a starbux barista, and tried every roast and blend...

    Responses to Anti-Tobacco Intruders

thank you all for the replies :-) I had a great-great-grandfather that smoked a pipe, and lived to be 98. I also had a greatx3-uncle on the other side of my family that lived to be 103. my grandfather gave up the pipe in his late 40s and expired at 73... My roommates approve enough of my hobby...

    Responses to Anti-Tobacco Intruders

The good responses do far outweigh the negative ones, I suppose I place too much weight in the disapproval of complete strangers!

    Responses to Anti-Tobacco Intruders

As a relatively new pipe smoker, I've only just now taken my love of pipe smoking outside of my home and car. In my experience, everyone equates pipes to cigarettes- an unfair comparison to say the least. I am courteous, and obey the many restrictions placed on connoisseurs of The Leaf. Even...

    Sincere Thanks

I would like to thank everyone for all their contributions to this site, and to keeping the noble pursuit of pipe smoking alive for recent initiates such as myself. Recently I have achieved a modicum of success in my pipe endeavors, and it is due in no small part to the enormous volume of...

    Can You Smoke at Work?

I have plenty of opportunity to do so, I work as a shipbuilder. my work takes place primarily in the very beginning parts of module construction, lots of welding, grinding, burning, etc. Many people chain smoke cigarettes as they work, and I could get away with clenching a pipe in my teeth and...
