    Baldor L3403 motor

As for the whine on decelleration. The motor you have is split phase and uses a centrifigal switch to disconnect the start capacitor (housed on top the motor). As motor winds down you will normally have that whine, followed by a click as the switch actually trips back to the closed position. As...

    Whats your DREAM pipe?

As long as we're dreaming I'd like another Lou's I had made for me in 1968. After a mere 30 years of hard use and abuse it finally burned through. Lou's hand made pipes were a house offering of Lou's Tobacco Bar Ltd. and were made in London. Actual maker was a house secret of course. :crying:

    Savinelli sans filter

Not to stray from the subject of filters (to far anyway). A friend of mine seemed mystified that I really enjoyed pipe smoking and then told me he had bought a pipe but just couldn't stand the taste of it. On a little further investigation he didn't know it had a filter and had smoked it three...

    Savinelli sans filter

I only use the adapter in my Savanelli Bings favorite because of the thin shank wall. Having the adapter allows a pipe cleaner to pass easily and not have to pull the stem for a quick clean after each smoke. This is admittedly an inherent weakness of the pipes design but I love this pipe. Other...

    Pipe ID help please

It is possible that it is a Mercier's second. Mercier's (a french company) has/had pipes made in England and sold as seconds. Have one similar to yours with exact same marking in the exact same layout in the same position. The opposite side says Mercier's over Westbury. As with yours it has a...

Any info on my Belgian "flea market" pipe?

The stem appears to be cherry wood. It is possible that the bowl is too.

Glad you rescued the Meer. It's a beauty. :worship:

    What is a rescued pipe?

As far as eBay goes it's a pipe someone wants to make a buck on yet doesn't feel it's work refurbishing. So an unrestored estate pipe might a decent definition.

    My 3 bulldogs

The Bulldog has always been a classical and ever popular shape and cannot imagine a pipe manufacturer who hasn't made and sold them at one time or another. They are all nice examples and appear to have been properly cared for. So... you win! They should all "look good, work good." Enjoy.

    Biggest pet peeve

My pet peeve is pipes coated with clear varnish. Have come accross pipes that just called to me, take me home, but were clear coated. They smoke a little hotter and usually are stained dark and then coated. One I liked so much that before it was ever smoked I stripped the bowl, buffed it well...

    Anyone Like Captain Black

It's all a subjective question of taste. Must by doing something right as it's been around for years and is a popular brand. Just not on my list of favorites.

    Savinelli "Tundra" Line

Just checked and P&C has one rusticated 320EX and will back order the smooth if you are willing to wait couple days.

    Meerschaum lined pipe

The Nording would be a good choice. Most pre-smoke coatings can be easily removed before smoking. Yes, many lined meer are press rather than block. They smoke OK but not really anything special and caution is required when maintaining the bowl surface.

"The only dumb question is the one not asked"

Metal Falcons and Vikings are nice as you can change style and bowl size easily. Easy to clean as well. Somehow to me there is a metallic taste to them, others say not so. Still have one somewhere but haven't seen it lately.
