Since I only smoke meerschaum pipes, I first consider the history of the pipe carver. If the Carver has more happy customers than upset ones, I then try to find out if the carver actually smokes pipes (I do this by google imaging the carver's name and trying to find any pics of the said carver...- buzzbegone
