Given A Tin of 1996 Christmas Cheer...Rust Inside

Oh no... I purchased a 1994 tin to crack on my birthday in June. Hopefully mine is rust and mold free. I had planned on that being a birthday smoke for the rest of my life. Will try to remember to post again in a week or two when I crack it to air out a bit before the inaugural smoke.

    What Do I Need?

Definitely agree with this. I intended for this hobby to be small like the last time I tried it. only a few cobs and some tobacco. But with a 15 pipe stand that is now filled, I've tried to call it quits on pipes (except the elusive 1994 Dunhill, not rusticated I'm looking for). I have also...

    What Do I Need?

Ooof sorry, California is a bit tricky for tobacco I think. The Country Squire recommendation was meant because they have great stuff and are a great online tobacconist. Not sure their shipping restrictions.

Jim's SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve Flake Review.

Thanks you saved my wallet. Got about 12 oz left of the other stuff, so not really chomping at the bit to get more

Anyone Have A Spreadsheet To Share?

Here is my spreadsheet. Make a copy for yourself and clear out information. Just to let you know the Age Date field is a formula so don't clear that column out. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EkCLt86ucNc3t8n-TW3n1Ua4aSywWlj5Yjb7ivGHEeI/edit?usp=sharing

    What Do I Need?

Pipe, lighter, tamper (finger, nail, spent cartridge could all work as well), pipe cleaners. That's all you need. I'd suggest Peterson Early Morning Pipe as a decent start. Maybe move to Nightcap then 3 nuns to enjoy the nostalgia of what your father smoked. Otherwise check out a tobacconist...

Jar Size to Tobacco Amount Ratio

I think I have managed a little over 3oz in a 8oz jar with coins. I have also managed 10-11oz of ribbon (Dunbar) into a 32 oz jar. Both of these are really packing it in. I prefer to leave more air if possible, but sometimes you don't have the jars to spare.

    Dedicated Pipes

Since you are just starting, I would say pick up a set of Smokable seconds from Missouri Meerschaum. Or pick up a few briars for super cheap from RNA Treasures. This will allow a good rotation as you continue to build your briar collection. Once you have enough pipes I use my cobs for testers...

    Hope For the Beginner

Thanks for this! As someone approaching their first year as well, I feel much of these. I'd like to add on that it's easy to always try to get the perfect smoke and get down on yourself when you don't. This will ruin the hobby for you. Enjoy it and don't worry about being perfect. You will...

Any ideas on the possible axed blends?

    Short Interview With Gawith

So are they getting new tin shape and all or keeping the iconic SG tin just with a different manufacturer? Maybe the lowered cost will find its way to the tobacco too

    Your First Year Smoking

I'm interested to hear what your experiences are in your first year of smoking. As I approach my first year, I haven't gotten to smoke as much as I wanted to just due to other responsibilities so this next year I want to learn how to make it a much more natural part of my routine with reading...
