This is the double open comb. It looks aggressive as can be, but it 100% is not. It’s as smooth and gentile a shave razor there can be.I switched to an open comb Merkur and a few shave soap samples from Stirling. I am getting a much better shave than using the traditional cartridge razors. I will likely never go back.

The one you suggest cleaning, do you know what brand it is? And what type of blade it takes? If you are interested to clean it up, razor emporium does restorations. Matt is a great guy.
Can’t tell 100% if it’s a glare or how you maybe sharpening that King Cutter. Looks in the picture to have some wear on the edge. Are you taping it when you sharpen? Also, what you think of that tabac? I read it’s a cologne based off the tobacco flower if my memory serves me correctly.
I’d have to see better pictures. It takes any standard double edged safety blade. They are universal. Pack of 100 double edge razors is probably 8ish$ these days. So 100 blades (get 3-6 shaves out of each blade) lets you shave all year pretty much. The one you suggest cleaning, do you know what brand it is? And what type of blade it takes?
and which one is the king cutter? I sand and strop all those straight razors if it’s one of them.
Thanks, Brad. I think I’ll get some blades, but keep it tarnished. I kind of like that look. I doubt it’s an expensive razor that needs polished anyway. Pap lived pretty modestly.I’d have to see better pictures. It takes any standard double edged safety blade. They are universal. Pack of 100 double edge razors is probably 8ish$ these days. Open it up and see if that are any stamping on the inside or underneath it. Might have a name brand stamped on it.Thanks, Brad. I think I’ll get some blades, but keep it tarnished. I kind of like that look. I doubt it’s an expensive razor that needs polished anyway. Pap lived pretty modestly.
Thanks Brad I’ll check that out !Bleu de Channel makes a aftershave and aftershave lotion. Both are fantastic and I recommend them both.
The aftershave is just alcohol/water/fragrance. It’s not really got anything good in it for the face after a shave.
Thanks for the info information in this post and your other posts in this thread. I believe I’ve found another rabbit whole to investigate while lying in bed at night. Thanks… I think? So Blue Tips are Less aggressive and the Reds are more aggressive. All of my Reds are 1959 models and they can burn you up if you’re not used to using them. You’ll find that the Blue Super Speeds do well on the neck in sensitive spots really well.
A couple days of stubble the Red will take it off with ease.
Im partial to Gillette’s and especially my Fat Boys and Slim Adjustable's but for Modern razors Merkur 34’s or Futur’s and Parkers get my vote.
I’m not the most knowledgeable but this is what’s been dependable for me. I got my first Super Speed in 1984 a Black Handle from the local Drug Store and still have it today. The others I acquired through antique shops, friends, grandfather etc. Here’s a link to a great supplier especially on Gillette and he does revamps too. Thanks for the info information in this post and your other posts in this thread. So that code can be looked up and you can figure out a date of production. I have lost my skills in doing that. I used to know a lot of that information off hand but that has been years ago.It is Gillette. It says F686084.

Was you grandfather in the military?
I seriously doubt it is one that was issued from military but if it’s old enough maybe…
Would warrant a lot more research.
Looking at PaulRVAs chart I see the King you refer to is Gramps razor. I think it’s just a serial number, which makes it old, according to PaulRVAs link. He was not military. I have not sharpened it. When I disassembled it i saw he was using a Gillette blade. So that code can be looked up and you can figure out a date of production. I have lost my skills in doing that. Plz throw that blade away!!!!!Looking at PaulRVAs chart I see the King you refer to is Gramps razor. I think it’s just a serial number, which makes it old, according to PaulRVAs link. He was not military. I have not sharpened it. When I disassembled it i saw he was using a Gillette blade.
Oh I would never use that blade. This probably isn’t the appropriate venue to mention it, but when you had me disassemble it I’m pretty sure a few of one of my grandparents pubes fell out. Going forward after that was not easygoing.Plz throw that blade away!!!!!
Don’t use any older antique blades. One they are not as good as newer production blades, two they maybe rusted and you would need a tetanus shot.
I’ve actually heard not great reviews on the higher concentrations of Tabac. Do you have experience with either?Tabac makes a splash on cologne, aftershave, and spray on EDT.
This is most likely what type of blade was in the razor.
