Not sure if it qualifies as a beginner question, as I've been smoking off and on for a while, but the "if you like this, then you will like that" sort of thing has caused me to buy far more things that I don't like than stuff that I'd love to keep cellared forever. I assume this is the same for everyone? Or maybe not?

Anyway, I bought HU Director's Cut and absolutely love it. I've also enjoyed Mac Baren Stockton in the past. I haven't been good at analyzing the blend profiles of different tobaccos or choosing which ones I might like based on the ingredients.

What should I try next if I like these two?

Some friends have recommended PH Curly Block and C&D Bayou Morning Flake, but I haven't tried either of those yet.

All of it.
Literally try all the tobacco you can afford to.

If you have a brick and mortar shop to go to, do that and buy several 1 ounce bags of various bulk things to try. If not, 1 ounce bulk samples can be ordered on various websites that sell pipe tobacco.

Go to Smoking Pipes dot com and check out their top selling tobaccos in both tin and bulk.

Try tins. Try bulk.
Read up about it.
Watch videos.

The selection is so incredibly vast and peoples’ taste vary so dramatically from person to person, it’s impossible for anyone to guide you here better than you could guide yourself.

Get into it. Dive in. Go nuts.

I would try looking on Tobacco Reviews, and store sites that also list reviews, for blends in the same categories -- Virginia/Perique for Director's Cut, and Virginia with Dark Fired for Stockton. Look at the flavors the reviewers identify, and see if they fit what you're tasting. If your tastes align, other blends that those reviewers rate highly will also likely be good for you.

But TBH, as a newbie myself, it's really hard to get a solid, lasting impression of any blend from just a few smokes, because of all the subjectives that are part of the experience: your mood, the weather, how you pack and light, how fast or slow you smoke that particular day, what you ate and drank recently, sleep, health issues, biorhythms, astrological signs, chakra alignments, etc., etc. I've had a number of blends that I've gone back and forth on multiple times!

Relax. Slow down. Be willing to try a blend multiple times, and keep an open mind and palette. Don't be too willing to get rid of any blend, because your tastes will definitely change over time, and in general, having more tobacco now is better than having to buy more in the future!

HU Directors Cut should come with a warning label.”No other Vaper can compete with this blend” 😀 That’s my thoughts though.

Personally I have found no other VaPer (easily obtainable) I like better than HU Directors cut . I rank it as my 2nd favorite VaPer. McClelland 2015 perique beats it…. But can’t really find any.

Comparable to directors cut would be Peter hienricks curly special and 3noggins is a very nice VaPer.

I’ve not had anything else quite like it.

Thoughts on Stockton?
