I just got to the point that there wasn't enough flavor difference in non aromatics of the same genre to warrant any further interest. Aromatics can taste like anything I'd want.
This is why I started on some heavier aromatics. Ive always liked the lighter ones like MacBaren blends....Va#1 is probably my deserted island blend.
But many years of straight Vas, Burleys, and Latakia blends, they became kinda like cigars to me. The reason I switched from mainly cigars to mainly pipes was because the cigars were becoming boring. Very subtle flavor differences while paying $6-$20 a stick.
Pipes gave me a bunch more variety. But after a couple decades of Virginias, they start to become boring. There are lots of standouts....Va#1, FVF, DFK.....but I'll hear about a FANTASTIC blend, pay $15 for a tin, and it's just tastes like many other blends.
Good Danish or English aromatics taste like tobacco, but have something extra....which I apparently like.
When I started on pipes, my first pound purchase was Smokers Pride Cherry. That turned me off until I tried MacBaren Cube and WO Larsen Signature.
