Seriously, seen some statitics on petty smokers den, that 90% of sutliff blends fail to sell 1,000 # per year..
Lol shots fired 😂

Kind of beside the point since Sutliff was run on a different model, more like a boutique, where special interest blends would be made, as opposed to making relatively few blends, but all of them large sellers, which is the STG model.

But you have to also remember that many people were sooo happy to mock Sutliff blends.. until they realized that the "custom designer blend" from their local pipe store

was just a lane or sutlif blend bought in 20 pound bags,, and repackaged by some pimp faced highschooler earning minimum wage.

then the sheer outrage started.

I trace much of the attitude to a period when Sutliff was promoting a line of aromatics under its own label and dumping them on pipe clubs all over the country. Funny that some of those despised goopers were STDG's choice to retain. Hate them all you want, they were huge sellers.

Most of the detractors would then go on to extolling some favorite blend of theirs as being so much better than Sutliff's crappy product, not knowing that their choice was actually made by Sutliff.

I've known a lot more about who made what than I'm allowed to, or ever going to reveal, so watching all of this was kind of amusing.

In any event, all of this has been litigated to death and I've no further interest in getting into it. The corpse is cold.

That place is a dumpster fire.
LOL. I find the vibes of the various fora to be quite amusing. Each has its own reigning cock of the walk who feels he needs to cast his pearls of “wisdom” on everything (usually just an angry “kids these days”-style comment), each has its own favorite blends/blenders that shall never be questioned, and that shall be rallied around by the oldsters when a n00b dares test the limits with an honest opinion.

I dare not list a few of my other observations about various forum denizens, lest I get run out of town on a rail for striking too raw a nerve, but I can assure you that every forum has its universal characters. I may even be one of them myself.

The place that’s a true dumpster fire is Facebook, with its dozens of groups each centered around a guy who was driven out of some other group and started his own in useless protest.

They provided blends for Pipes and Cigars, Wilke, The Country Squire, Watch City and many other labels. My post was facetious as my cellar was mostly C&D and Sutliff. Every time a long condemned brand goes under, posts coke out of the woodwork bemoaning their loss.

This is true.

I recently bought some tobacco from Milan Tobacconists and it was obvious to me that "their blend" is really just repackaged or slightly modified Sutliff tobacco.

Nearly every brick and mortar store in the US that sells "their own" bulk tobacco was completely dependent on Sutliff as a supplier.

Milan Tobacconist has a very good blender and makes many of their blends. I am sure that they were dependent on Sutliff for some of the tobaccos. Some of their blends were discontinued due to the death of Sutliff, but many of their own blends ware blended by their tobacconist.

Yea , and I don't see how they can even continue to stay in business .

I'm pretty sure that if I called WC , Wilke , and others & asked them , they'd tell me to buzz off .

It is a little concerning , though.........

They even had an administrator quit because of it awhile back.

Ive bought more Sutliff tobacco in the last month than ever before.
Not because they are going away, it's just that BECAUSE they are going away, everyone has been talking about their blends that I've never tried. :)
My wife asked what was in the box I was carrying into the vault. I told her it was NONE OF HER BUSINESS!!
Sooooo, she followed me in. After looking at the 50 tins I was adding to the stash, she called me a druggie. :(
You guys are enablers!

I'd rather ask for forgiveness, then beg for permission.

Just kidding, she doesn't care at all.
Occasionally she will ask if there is a pipe I want, or any tobacco I need.
I then know she wants a purse, or shoes, or whatever chick's buy.
We don't have kids, we don't drink or do drugs, no gambling, no expensive vices. So we buy what we want. For me it's pipes, tobacco, firearms, and cars and car parts.
For her its.......whatever dames like. :)
