Is it waterproof? You know it's gonna get wet.
I prefer the old style waterproof match box

Lots of other choices HERE and HERE
That steel cylinder looks remarkably similar to the one I had for many years. Mine had the Boy Scouts emblem stamped on the lid. Probably from my days in Webelos! Not sure when or how I lost it.

wait are you saying that just because stores don't often carry the products we want isn't an indication that someone in a government office thought they won't let me cancel Christmas but I can still bum out some random dudes on a pipe forum? That on occasion it could just be market forces or liability issues. Like maybe the demand is not high enough?

Hey totally legal but have different regs for shipping. And not high enough of a demand to make a product that most of your customers aren't going to pay more for but instead would just buy the regular ones.
So not banned just not as profitable or worth making in the same quantity.
If you think there is enough demand you might be able to make and sell your own at a slightly higher price.
Seriously match making isn't that hard including strike anywhere.

Strike anywhere matches were discontinued in the EU due to regulations restricting the chemicals used to produce them.

In the US, regulations restrict the shipping of strike anywhere matches, requiring them to be shipped as hazmat.

Hazmat shippers must be permitted, which involves worker training and certification. Shipments must be packaged in double wall boxes, labled according to regulations, and be declared to the carrier.

Ammunition does not require hazmat shipping, but smokeless powder and primers do. Vendors usually tack on $35 or so for hazmat. Not a big deal if you are buying 5,000 primers or several pounds of powder, but a bit excessive for a box of matches.

Yes. I wasn't thinking of the EU at the time. And just pointing out here that it's less banned and more just not worth it when for most consumers the alternative isn't that different. And how if it's a thing we really want it's available and could be more widely available if someone is willing to make it happen.

The difficulty in obtaining strike anywhere matches in the US is due entirely to government regulations. Now, I think those restrictions may well be warranted, given the risk, possible outcome and the availability of viable alternatives.

After more than a week of using matches exclusively (with an occasional light from my im corona old boy), I can’t help but wonder about the cost of butane and lighter vs the number of matches I use. It’s interesting how the physicality of the wooden match and striking action makes me more aware of cost. But it does. It’s certainly an enjoyable experience for a change. But as I continue to open box after box of matches I wonder of it’s actually much more expensive. The initial reason I found myself coming back to matches is that, apart from the old boy, all of my other lighters, including a Dunhill Rolalite and Zippos, give me a lot of trouble. Anyway, I plan to continue the matches, keep the old boy, and am considering a corona pipe master in the future.

Isn't like the old days I remember, you could get a free book of matches about every store and restaurant you walked into!

Late to the thread, I know, but when I purchased this Victorian pocket watch (essential when one is being Victorian with any pretensions to social status) it came with a match holder - we call them 'vestas' in England - with a rough-grooved striker on the top of the lid. No 'strike anywhere' matches allowed amy more, thanks to legacy EU regulations - but I intend to glue a safety match striker surface onto it, so I can use it to light my pipe when I'm dressed up for my role as an 1890s farm bailiff. The vesta counterbalances the watch nicely in the opposite waistcoat fob pocket.Piggy.jpg
