According to the French website pipegazette.com (Jan 23rd, 2025), nearly 200 MacBaren Blends Will Be Kept in Europe According to STG, including some HH blends. Here's a selection of written article in English below:

"Reassuring news. This is the first interview given by a Scandinavian Tobacco Group executive since its purchase of Mac Baren. Max Stokkebye answers our questions about the future of pipe tobacco in Europe.

Max Stokkebye, son of Erik Stokkebye (4th Generation) , is director of the pipe tobacco sector within the Danish group Scandinavian Tobacco (STG). He gives us an update on the new decisions taken since the acquisition of competitor Mac Baren.

Pipe Gazette: We have learned that many Mac Baren pipe tobaccos will soon be withdrawn from the US market (only five will be maintained). And in Europe, will you keep all the existing Mac Baren blends?
Max Stokkebye: The final Mac Baren portfolio for Europe will include almost 200 different products. These include brands such as: Capstan, Three Nuns, St. Bruno, Mac Baren, Choice, 7 Seas, Caporal, Amsterdamer, Cellini, Holger Danske, HH, Saint-Claude, to name a few.

For example, in Germany and Denmark, which Mac Baren blends will be kept?
Some of the Mac Baren brands for these countries include: Mac Baren, Choice range, HH, Holger Danske, Capstan, St. Bruno, Originaler, Prestige, Rum & Maple, Three Nuns, Van Halteren.

You mention the HH. Does this mean that all the HH series blends will be kept in Germany?
In Germany we will continue with the HH Latakia Flake and the HH Old Dark Fired.

And for example, what about the Dark Twist and Stockton mixes ?
The Stockton will continue. The Dark Twist* was a limited edition, so we won't continue.
(*Several readers think that it was actually the Royal Twist that was a limited edition. So the Dark Twist should be kept. Contacted, Max Stokkebye said he was sorry for this slip. Indeed, the Dark Twist is being kept, while the Royal Twist will disappear, editor's note).

And what about France?
Mac Baren brands for France include Amphora, Mac Baren, Choice, 7 Seas, Amsterdamer, Caporal (Scaferlati), Le Supérieur, Saint-Claude"

With production continuing for many Mac blends, only 5 blends being maintained in the US seems on the surface at least to be a simple decision. We weren't buying them in large enough numbers to justify offering more here. I'll admit I just went to my cellar and looked to see if I had any; I only found a few tins of Holger Danske Black and Bourbon. Only one was opened, and nearly full. I've cut back on aromatics, but still. And I'm not a huge fan (nor detractor; just given a choice, I'll buy something else) of their non-aromatics. I had no idea if I was representative or not, but apparently I am. They have people threatening a revolt over 5 beloved blends, if they don't keep coming, so they are. I can't get too upset at STG over this one. Not becoming a fanboy by any means, but seems they're trying to behave reasonably from an economics perspective, balanced with angering as few customers as possible.

Importantly: these blends will not be available througout Europe. Most will only be available in one or two countries, based on local market. Only two blends from the HH line will remain in Germany for instance. And when the production will have been transfered to STG, they will all be different anyway.

The following will get the axe in Germany:
7 Seas
Amphora Burley
Amphora Kentucky
Amphora No.2
Amphora No.8
MB Cube Silver
MB HH Pure Virginia
MB HH Bold Kentucky
MB HH Rustica
MB HH Vintage Latakia
MB HH Burley Flake
Planta Jacaranda
Kentucky Club
Königlich Preußisches Tabakskollegium Bleu + Rouge
MB Golden Ambrosia
MB Red Ambrosia
Meine Mischung Braun
Presbyterian
Planta Sans Souci
Van Halteren Black & Bright 40g
Wellauers English Blend

A cursory glance suggests that much of what is remaining in the EU are blends that were EU market blends, not specifically US market blends. MacBaren has its dedicated fans in the US, just not enough to persuade STD to keep them in circulation here.

Chances are Esterval's will carry them and you can import them that way.

Maybe, a backdoor market might start with UK MacBaren blends showing up on Tinbirds or Pipestuds in the future so people can get their favorite blends again at an more expensive price of course.

Are we sure that something hasn’t been lost in translation. Seems very different from what we’ve been told.
No, it is correct. This only mistake was M. Stokkebeye confusing Dark twist and Royal twist (Unfortunately, I really love Royal twist and dark twist not that much). But as a note, Europe is EU, so not UK. All this was confirmed yesterday by MS in an interview with Simon from LCS briar

That's what I thought, and it's interesting to read about this on a French pipe website. Unless what happens in the UK stays in the UK (not really), and they don't think we'll be interested. It's very interesting to me that STG (if your reading this) hasn't been doing interviews in the US and just letting us speculate from the few people at Sutliff willing to talk. Come on, STG, you can do better dialogue with the US pipe community.
