my meer is a translucent meerschaum. And yeah it colors in all neat and stuff in visible layers. Basically it's a quality that happens sometimes and some people want it bad enough to pay more. Kind of like what happened with straight grained pipes which used to also not cost more.

Soon there will be straight VEINED meers! 🤤🤤🤤 The most exclusive of all meerschaum pipes!

I really wish I could see the translucent-ness of a meer when pipe shopping online. It's too difficult to tell in a picture 🙁

Does the meer filter sit at the bottom?
Yes it drops into the bottom and fits rather snuggly. I wasn't sure if it served any purpose other than, during the draw test and the first few puffs, keeping any tongue tinglers from pulling through. Now that I've experimented, I've found that using it allows every smoke down to white ash with little effort.
