So, I'm playing Scrabble with the wife, and I'm in one of those annoying spots where none of my letters are worth more than one point each. I spot an "N" with a triple word score two squares away in each direction. So I lay out "tenon," totally expecting a challenge from my wife. But it never came! Once I explained what it was, I just sat back and collected nine hard earned points a non-pipe smoker totally would have missed out on.

Anyone else do this? I know I'm really scraping the bottom of the obscurity barrel here, but what else is there to do on a Sunday?

I’ve always thought scrabble was more about placement and knowledge of obscure words that create good scores than anything else? (He says bitterly as one with skill in neither of those things)

edit : we used to play every Sunday when I was a kid. My mum, my grandparents and I. My grandad was always looking for the longest and cleverest words and invariably lost every time. ?

I used to hate playing scrabble as a teenager - probably 'cos it was my stepmothers favourite game - I even fell asleep during one game and everyone just thought I was taking a long time to make my move. I think that was the last game I played, some 44 years ago :sher:

Since spell check doesn't seem to know half the pipe terms I attempt to use, and I have to fight it to use them, I'd be wary of trying to use pipe terms playing with people outside the family. Some are in the dictionary, others maybe not.

My phone adapts to commonly used words and will often anticipate during common strings of words in a sentence.
