I don't have any meerschaum pipes and I'm thinking I want one over 100 years old. @ashdigger I know you have a few very old meers.

Where should I start? Are there certain brands to target on ebay? Thanks

Trust me on this point as I only smoke 100+ year old meerschaum 'cutty' pipes and even have a blog on the subject that I infrequently update called 'allthingscutty' which will give you some handy tips on what to look for as you enter the antique meerschaum market. Good luck and feel free to PM if you need any advice.

I am afraid myself and Weezell are the two ancient pipe enablers who have been locked in a 'cutty' arms race for years. He is also one of my closest friends and the reason why you never see us sell pipes since we trade them with each other. I am afraid I also got our dear brother Tim into the antique meerschaum addiction so as usual you can just blame Simon. Anyway before you ask here is a small sample of 'pipe porn' and what happens when you take leave of your senses.

Simon, if they had a “drooling” emoji I’d select that instead of ?. Absolutely a wonderful collection to be cherished.?☕

That is not a collection but merely part of a collection. You are looking at a thirty day rotation. That group has many more brothers and sisters since I have been buying non stop since the mid 1980s. When I started collecting no one was interested in this style and since I smoked clay 'cutty' pipes and then quit due to developing 'tooth notches' these were the only pipes my dentist didn't moan about.

Very interesting blog. I like the post in which you explain how our ancestors got that two tone finish on their meerschaum pipes. The more you know.

@gamzultovah. Thank you. Most of the knowledge I have accumulated over the years is from those who are sadly no longer around. The meerschaum shop in Paris was fabulous. I have written about the owner on here before who was a WW1 veteran with his blue woolen uniform hanging behind the door in his office who I met in the early 1980s. The place was founded by his Father I think and all they did was repair meerschaum pipes and amber stems. I have also swapped reminiscences with a British gentlemen on here who is also an ancient pipe devotee regarding some of the long gone stores in London. I keep meaning to write a 'Cutty Companion' book when I retire but I have a couple more spy novels I have promised to finish before I undertake that task. I am told that when you retire you realize that you never really had time to go to work!!
