The Pipes Magazine Radio Show – Episode 202

Kevin Godbee
Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We broadcast weekly, every Tuesday at 8 pm eastern USA time and are available on nearly all podcast sites and apps. Listen on your computer, tablet, phone and even in the car! Our Featured Interview tonight is our Part II with Mike McNiel. Mike is part of the husband & wife team that run McClelland Tobacco Company. McClelland is one of the most popular boutique pipe tobacco companies, and Mike has been in the tobacco business since he was a teenager. He has so much history and experience in the business that he has forgotten more about tobacco than most of us will ever know. In the "Pipe Parts" segment, Brian will talk about some of the common traits that most pipe smokers share. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

Tonight’s show is sponsored by Sutliff-Tobacco.com, SmokingPipes.com, CupOJoes.com Missouri Meerschaum, 4noggins.com, Cornell & Diehl, and Savinelli Pipes and Tobaccos. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.

We hope you enjoy our 1-hour show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes and other podcast sites and apps after the initial broadcast is complete here.

  • A very good show. I will have to agree that pipe smokers are above average (intelligence or what you will call it. ) Mike’s interview was on spot. It appears that we have someone who is passionate about this. I love McClellan tobacoos along with several others, and will back them to my fullest extent. Great show Brian, keep IT up. Jeb

  • You’ve been doing this show for nearly 4 years, every week, and I don’t remember a single one that disappointed. I don’t feel I’m being redundant when I say “great show” more than 200 times.
This one, too, was terrific. Mike is an amazing raconteur, and so obviously dedicated to his company, its products, and its reputation. He is truly “Old School.”
And, you chose the perfect musical compliment to his, one sided, conversation: Scott Joplin’s “A Real Slow Drag,” a piano roll performance, on a vintage player piano. You can’t get much more “Old School” than that.
I totally agree with your assessment of the ethos of our pipe community.
    Again, Bravo and thanks.

  • Yes, another fine show. Mike has one interest in this world and it is tobacco. When you consider the FDA is about to take that away from him I am surprised he didn’t get on your soapbox and rant for an hour. How can you argue with people who just say “The FDA disagrees with you”, wraps themselves in the cloth of righteousness, and smugly acts like they are doing what is best for us.
Your fourth anniversary is coming up in a about seven weeks. Any plans??

  • Brian. Great show. Your description of pipe smokers is way off. I only have collections of ink pens, collectible watches, pre-WW11 shotguns and handguns…….AND I’m almost always out with one of my 4 photog vests for two reasons. 1) to have many pockets for a pipe, tobacco, a pipe gadget and cleaners…..And 2) to hide my Glock 40……..carried leagally.
But your mistaken……. since my shoulder operation…..I’m NOT INTO ARCHERY OR BALLROOM DANCING. BRIAN YOURE WAY WAY OFF. HAHA.
    BE WELL MY FRIEND.
    TRAVEL SAFE.

  • New Listener. Really enjoyed the interviews with Mike McNiel. He’s a funny guy and quite candid, which I appreciated. You and he chat well together and it’s a pleasure to listen. I think you and Mike should be a regular duo on the show. Talking about anything!
