Hearth & Home Anniversary Kake – Pipe Tobacco Reviews

Hearth & Home Pipe Tobacco Tin

Anniversary Kake is an attractive looking mixture that ranges from very light brown pieces all the way to very dark brown pieces of tobacco. The moisture content when it arrived felt a little on the moist side, but it was definitely smoke-able upon receiving it. I do suggest a little drying time though to help out with an easier burn with fewer re-lights.

The tin aroma was very intriguing and pleasant. I could detect the sweetness of the Virginias with a light chocolate scent that was accompanied by a slight tanginess in the nose that made my mouth literally water. I was also able to pick up a very slight pepperiness from the Perique. This tobacco has a great smell!

Upon its arrival, the tobacco was in large chunks and requires a bit of rubbing out. I don’t have a picture of what it looks like when I received it, because I had to break it up into small pieces to fit into jars for storage. Photo 1 is before rubbing out, as you can see, it is a little chunky. Photo 2 is the rubbed out tobacco.

I filled my pipe, performed the charring light, and then I settled back for the smoke. Do not make the mistake of thinking this is an aromatic based on the chocolate and fig in the description. This is a pure VA/PER (Virginia/Perique) blend. I detected no fig taste and very little, if any, chocolate taste. The chocolate is very faint. I only pick up very slight hints of it every now and then, and it is way in the background.

This is a very good blend that uses very good quality tobaccos. The Virginia offers up a very nice sweetness and the Perique adds a nice, balanced tanginess every once in awhile. The Perique also keeps the Virginia in check so it does not bite as much as some Virginias do. It has a very nice finish that is a little sweet and a little tangy, a very good balance of both.

This is an excellent VA/PER and will always be in my rotation. If Virginia and VA/PER blends are up your alley, then this tobacco should definitely be at the top of your ‘To Try’ list. It is at the top of my list of favorite tobaccos and I Highly Recommend this blend.

Brand: Hearth & Home
Blend: Anniversary Kake
Description: Anniversary Kake- We wanted to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the Hearth and Home tobaccos with a special blend, and due to a fortunate “accident”, we were able to create this one. We ordered a blending Virginia that we expected to be all Red, but it turned out to be a mixture of everything from Lemon through Brown, and when we opened the bag, the aroma was amazing. We were able to order more of this tobacco, and then we combined it with St. James Perique (a good amount), heat-treated and pressed it. The result is a smooth, flavorful cake with a mouth-watering chocolate and fig pouch aroma.
