It's a very nice store. You can smoke in it, they have a lounge where you can relax, have a smoke and a cup of coffee. The staff is very helpful, and friendly. First impressions, excellent, I will definately be shopping her a lot in the future.
I have been going to Churchill's for a while and have always received a warm welcome and great service. This past year I decided to give Tobacco Pipes a go. My GGrand Father used to smoke a pipe and I always have recalled it as pleasant. I Have been smoking cigars since the 80's and decided I didn't always have the time to smoke a good cigar and that a pipe would give me more opportunities.
Tom, George "Grumpy" and the rest of the staff were very helpful and didn't rush me into it. Matter of fact, they suggested I wait a weekend to come back to the Peterson Pipe event. I ended up buying a matching set of pipes, the Molly Malone ones from Peterson.
I got a tin of free Tobacco from the Peterson rep, and it smoked fine.
The next weekend I came in and Tom let me try some Serenity Blend..I fell in love. Bought a bag of it.
All in all, it's always been a good experience at Churchills.
Man, I'd love to give a witness here. Churchill's is a wonderful shop and I'm going to be a patron for years to come. The staff is fabulous and more than willing to share their knowledge of all things tobacco. So, really, what more could a person ask for?
They carry a good selection of pipes and even host Erik Nording several times a year which, I'm told, can take everybody involved several days to recover.
My only very minor problem with Churchill's is that, in a way, they're like the Gillette razor company. (And that's really okay because it's their business model.) "Here's an excellent, inexpensive razor and now, here are all of the razors you can use." They sell very few tinned tobaccos but I'm really okay with that. Their house blends are extraordinarily good and make up most of my daily smokes.
The downside is that they're Topeka's only true tobacco shop and the choices are limited. The upside is that what they offer is truly wonderful. You like Latakia? Let me know. My everyday blend will have you screaming like a junkie. Jonesing for Perique? Call me, baby. I can hook you up with Louisianna's best.
As a college student, I got my start pipe-smoking in this wonderful store, and because of that, it still defines for me the epitome of the Brick-and-Mortar establishment. The staff are friendly and helpful, the selection of pipes is quite good (most places these days have 50,000 cigars and a token selection of pipes and pipe tobacco -Churchill's offers many pipes and an entire wall in the humidor dedicated to tobacco blends.) The smoking area is cozy, and because they sell mostly bulk blends, the prices are quite reasonable. (That's also perhaps the only downside I can think of -when I used to go there, the only tins they carried were a paltry little stack of a few Nording tins.) Great store, great people, and Topeka is truly blessed to have such a gem. Every time I find myself in town, I always make a point to stop in.
