McClelland Frog Morton – Pipe Tobacco Reviews

The tin aroma of this blend has that great smoky aroma that Latakia lends to a blend. There is also quite a bit of sweetness mixed in with the aroma. The moisture content is a little on the wet side and some drying time is recommended. I filled the pipe using a two step packing method and proceeded to the charring light.

On the charring light I was greeted by the aroma and taste of smokiness and sweetness. It tastes and smells great (my wife does not agree with the smelling great part). The Latakia aroma in this blend is a little different than other blends that contain Latakia. The aroma is not so much like a camp fire smell as other blends, but more of a sweet smokiness. It is a little hard to explain, but the closest that I can explain it would be like if you are smoking some meat in a smoker. There is no meat in the taste or aroma, just the aroma of a wood like hickory or mesquite that you use to smoke meat, with some sweetness thrown in.

This blend is very good right from the start. I taste a medium smokiness mixed in with a medium sweetness that compliment each other nicely. I am also picking up on a lot of different flavors that are mingling all together. It is a strange mixture that makes this blend sing to me. I am picking up on very slight hints of chocolate and coffee every now and again. There is also a kind of very light fruity taste to the tobacco, but it is not really a fruity taste, maybe a bit of citrus notes as well. I’m not too sure what the flavor is, but it tastes great and I love the taste of this tobacco! These flavors last until a little past mid bowl and then the Latakia steps into the foreground a bit more.

This blend burns slow, cool, dry, and does not bite me at all. This is a very complex blend with all of the flavors that pop up and change continuously. Each time that I smoke this blend, I notice something different that I had not noticed on previous bowls. I would call this a light English blend. The Latakia does not overpower, but rather harmonizes with everything in the blend. This is a great crossover blend from Aromatics to English blends, yet it is complex enough that you will want to keep smoking it long after you have become accustomed to the more heavier English blends.

This has been one of my favorites ever since I smoked my first bowl of it two years ago. I love this blend so much that it is in my Top 5 favorite blends. I can guarantee that I will be buying, cellaring, and smoking a whole lot of this tobacco for a very long time.
This is a blend that I Highly Recommend!
