  • Just tried grousemoor. I am hooked an now part of a great group. Looking forward to squadron leader.
    Cheers

  • Over the past few years I have put back a fair number of tins and jars (bulk buys) of Navy Flake, FVF, and BBF. I never thought there would be an availability problem but knew prices were going to climb.

  • Hello fellow lovers of the ambrosial Samuel Gawith blends! I’m a newbie to pipesmagazine.com and this group, hailing from Cleveland, Tennessee.

I’ve been a fan of Squadron Leader for many years, and was distressed when I could not obtain it for love or money. Now that it’s available again, I have been very disappointed with what is currently being sold as S.L. It just isn’t the same tobacco that I remember. I even went so far as to open my last remaining cellared tin of (older) Squadron Leader in order to compare it with the current product, and the difference is like night and day. Has anyone elso noticed the change? It seems to be way short on Latakia and Orientals, compensated for by an increased proportion of yellow Virginia.

Forgive me if this has been discussed before.

When SL became available some months ago, I jumped the gun and bought a bunch of it in order to survive any future shortages, but I didn’t try it first. Dumb move.

Well, at least there are many alternatives these days. Lately I have been smoking G.L. Pease’s Meridian and Lagonda (among others).

  • Been turned on to SG blends by our great pipesmagazine clan…now I love 1792, Bracken, Kendal Cream, SL, Best Brown and of course FVF..
