Slow Saturday, so decided to clean up the three Zippos I have. Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to adjust wicks too and check on the flints. Discovered that on two of the three, the wick was smashed at the top of the packing against the top of the chamber, as opposed to being distributed "in" the packing. The third one was fine. So I pulled out the packing pieces, and then snaked the wick through each piece of cotton as I replaced them. I assume that maybe, just maybe, the time between fill-ups might increase? Anyone else ever do this?

Not yet, but a good idea. No idea if it will help pull more fluid out to the wick or not.
Did you also trim the wick? My Zippo's wick has splintered, and I think I should pull it up and trim it. Decent idea?

When you remove the cotton, it will help the longevity of your fluid if you will fluff the cotton a little as well.
