Hello gents and ladies. Hope you are all doing well.
What blend did you smoke at the end of the day?

I ended my day with smoking American Patriot in Stanwell Brushed Black.

Such a lovely blend with pleasant aroma and satisfying taste. :puffy:
I have noticed after cleaning that the chamber has a beige-colored ring.

Is this something that I should get rid of? Or will disappear as I keep on smoking it?

Before smoking the pipe, I did Salt&Alcohol treatment. Can that be the culprit?
I tried my best to take a shot inside the chamber.

Could just be a ring of bare wood beneath the carbon. I think it will be fine.

Then I should smoke carefully until the cake develops.

Thank you for your thoughts!

My suspicion is that the previous owner didn't fill the pipe all the way to the top, hence less carbon at the bowl's opening. I think you should be fine ...

If it's a salt deposit, rinsing thoroughly with hot water and immediately drying may take it out. It will also refresh the pipe.

I remove cake in my pipes until there is least of that black stuff left in it.

Oh that is not an estate pipe! I did not (or could not is better) smoke all the way to the bottom. At that time, I did not know the cake will provide cool, dry smoke and protection from heat. Maybe that is why...

One day, It started to taste funny. When I inserted Pipe Cleaner into the shank, it would always come out dirty even though I had cleaned it with alcohol-dipped PC few days ago. So I tried Salt and Alcohol treatment.
I am still learning and have lots of things to learn, but I enjoy the process and smoking partial bowls slowly (but man it is hard to smoke slowly!) to build cake.

Thank you all for your thoughts!

There is no need to smoke partial bowls or develop cake on purpose, just smoke your pipe and cake will make itself happen.
