Some of you may remember I had a Hilson pipe with a broken shank. You can find the original post here. Now remember, it was a freebie thrown in since the person I bought the lot from didn't know what to do with it. So after some looking around, pondering and thinking, I sent it off to Tim West.
Long story short, here's one pic to give you an idea of the before state:
So, I came home today to a little package from Tim and here's is what it looks like now
Close-up of the break.
You can see a very faint line, but the inside of the shank has been drilled out and a new piece glued in with a nice airway. I think it did change the airflow a bit, but hey.. it's better than it being completely ruined !
Here's the old mortise
Fixed and cleaned up
It has a wide open draw, Tim even cleaned up the stem for me (here's a before picture)
I think I'm going to dedicate it to aromatics, first pipe tomorrow with some Vanilla Cream. But in the mean time, this is done exceptionally well ! And Tim has been great to deal with.
He's going to get all my repairs.. great work ! And very reasonably prices
