Sons friend shot him with a rifle, he went in a dense thicket and my son went in with a 45 and he charged, son shot him 3 times, only thing saved my son was the thicket was so dense, he weighed over 300lbs, tusks over 4 inches long.

Wow! That's a nice one! I've been in a similar situation myself with a black bear, a quick reaction with a .44 mag ended his day and saved mine! Nothin like a big bore handgun to make an animal think twice!

That is a big hog. We hunt them with high power rifles but in the bush we turn to short barrel shotguns loaded with slugs. Your son is a brave, lucky guy. I've seen 300pounders shrug of 308 rounds, never mind 45!

Ryan that was a foolhardy thing he did, the only thing that saved him was the thicket. He forgot his paratrooper training and I told him so. When I was a teenager we had calves being killed and we thought gators was doing it, we had a roundup to catch em, Lo and behold it was a wild hog that was killing them. I was in my Grandfathers truck with several horsemen rideing the levee and pasture, out comes this huge hog and charges the lead horse knocking horse down, rider on his back, we couldn't shoot to close to both of them. The only thing that saved them is he circled in a wife arc, so I ran over him with my truck, drug that sucker about 500ft. They are hard to kill and you are right about magnum, Blue was right too about short shotgun with slugs. That boy was lucky the thicket was dense.

Big un! Some of these Hog Hunter reality shows on TV now don't really tell people how bad these pigs can be.

Holy crap! That's a huge hog!
Bradley, I'm glad your son is safe. Ending a wounded animal is the right thing to do, but it sounds like luck was on his side. Thank goodness for dense brush and a steady shot with the .45.
Merry Christmas, Bradley, to you and yours.

fire up the pit and invite the town over.. nothing better than a pig from a pit. that big guy will take least 18 hours but damn it's worth the investment.
