Its that time of the year when we all decide whether we will be going to the NY Pipe Show held strangely in Newark NJ and then pile off to the familiar B&M in NJ for a beer, chat and a rubber pizza whilst being choked by cigar smoke! I will be there as always accompanied by David Shain if we can finally stop playing phone tag, Dan may put in a showing and John from SToP might pop by to say 'Hi' and smoke a bowl or two. Who else from the forum will be there as it would be fun to meet up after the show for a beer/seltzer water/lemonade etc.

I'm a game time decision. We're coming back from New Orleans the week before the show, we'll see how much work piles up in our absence.

I'll know more in February but MrsLax and I have reservations at the Wyndham. If things go right we'll enjoy NYC Tu, Wed, Thurs and the show Fri and Sat.

Well if the NY Pipe Club mob are showing up then it should be quite a good get together. Hopefully a few other familiar faces will show up. I'll definitely persuade Dan to grace us with his presence.

I hate going to NJ. I may have to break my personal rule of avoiding NJ at all costs to make the show.

The only thing worse than going to NJ is going to Long Island.

fitzy, what about the East End in the Summer...? Said with tongue firmly in cheek, but I lived in Montauk for 20 years, so I became a bit of an expert on that drive.

The problem with Long Island (pronounced "lon-gisland" is that you have to drive to (and through) Long Island to get there.

Given your predilection for Condor, your toppings choice for pizza will be "All of the Above". Yesterday at Morley's, I helped a new member Ulu a Condor Plug. He sacrificed a new MissMeer on it, and then proceeded to want to relieve himself - he wanted to unplug himself, as it were. I passed. Another newbie fell in love with it, not knowing any better, and so took it home.

I only got one response (from Derekflint) about driving from Connecticut or Westchester, NY. So again, if anybody wants to share a ride from these locations, that would be great. Otherwise I’ll just have to sit it out.

Newark will always hold a fond memory for me. Years ago I was looking for some pictorial reference for Mars Attacks! while researching for possible location shooting. So I called the Newark Chamber of Commerce to inquire if they knew of some good photo reference books on Newark. The person at the other end of the call broke into hysterical laughter and dropped the phone.

At least they laughed. Today, nobody finds anything about Newark the least bit amusing.

As Sopranos fans, we loved our self guided tour of Newark. The Cathedral there is rather surprising. Huge, beautifully made and maintained. Worth a detour. It's not Notre Dame or Chartres or St. Pauls, but is quite impressive.

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

The show is next to a prison so politely decline "valet parking" at the entrance. The orange jump suit is one sign.

I spent some happy years visiting my girlfriend on Long Island and making day trips to Manhattan, where she used to live in Greenwich Village. I never had to drive the LIE, but she did it with ease, new the access roads to evade traffice, and so on. Now my girlfriend is my wife and living in North Carolina. I like it that the Chicago Pipe Show is in Pheasant Run, out in the country, and the NY Pipe Show is in NJ. Affordable venues that provide room to spread out.

    ALSO!!!

DON'T FORGET... ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! Regarding the pipe collection donation for Rolando Negoita, I want to make it very easy for all of us. If you were to bring any pipes you wish to donate and send to Marty Pulvers for sale in which all the proceeds go to the effort to help our brother, Rolando, please bring them to the NY Pipe Show on March 10th or the monthly meeting on March 13th and give them to me. I will will ship all of them at once together and the club will pay the shipping costs. If you would rather ship them to Marty on your own, you can certainly do that as well.

ALSO, please write your name on a piece of paper and insert it into the bowl so Marty knows who donated what pipe and for inventory purposes - please remember to do whatever you can towards the effort for our dear brother Rolando Negoita.

I will be there with Condorlover! Looking forward to seeing and hanging out with everyone!

I know what I need, smoke, I can't recall the last time I tasted it....Gandalf in the mines of Moria.

"we shall have to share pipes, as good friends must at a pinch'....'I keep a treasure or two near my skin, as precious as rings to me. Here's one: my old wooden pipe. And here's another an unused one...He held up a small pipe with a wide flattened bowl, and handed it to Gimli. 'Does that settle the score between us', said Merry. 'Most noble hobbit, it leaves me deep in your debt."
