Hi,

Got a pipe from an estate recently and I'd like to know just what I got? It has a wood bowl but on the outside it's white and has a yellow stem. If it's like the other pipes from this estate it may be late 50's/early 60's. No marks that I can see.
Thanks

Ok... probably right. Meerchaum was may initial thought but maybe it's just the way the rim is stained it looks like wood

The plainness of the pipe also tricked me. When I think Meerchaum I always thing of carved shapes and figures

Meerschaum is mineral that meerschaum pipes are made of, it is not a pipe shape or style. If it is wood, you know how it feels like, if it is meerschaum it will feel like a soft rock.

Meerschaum. I have one quite like that in size and shape.
You can clean off the rim by carefully scraping it. If it were a valuable pipe, I wouldn't do that, but that pipe is not extraordinary.

Yes, meerschaum. My guess is it's probably made in Austria in the 1950s. Plastic stem. Nice, simple meer and probably a good smoker, already starting to color. Enjoy it!
