After my wife made the comment, “What if you die tomorrow?”, I am turning over a new leaf (ba dump dump) and have made the decision to crack open and enjoy some of my aging McClelland Blends. I was out of the tobacco loop this past year and totally missed the chance to stock up on my favorite McClelland blends. So, the only unopened MC tins that I own are 2013 & 2016 Blackwoods Flake, 2014, 2016, & 2017 Christmas Cheer, and a 2016 tin of Beacon Extra. This may be $500 worth of tobacco on eBay, but that’s not happening. So...
Which BWF should I crack tonight? Do I crack the 2013 that has developed a nice tin bulge, or do I crack the 2016 that has not started to bulge yet? If I crack the 2013 am I going to miss some magic that happens to the blend with 10 years or more of age on it? If so, do I let that one continue to age and crack the newer one??? Either way, I’m smoking MC BWF TONIGHT AND I’M EXCITED!!!

I have a similar collection to you. I would go the 2014 CC, since you have 3 of those and the 2014 has enough age to be enjoyed now.
I came out of surgery two days ago and before going in I had similar thoughts about not enjoying some of my aged tins :) Now I have to follow my own advice!

Well...I checked the abbreviations cheat sheet here and Blackwoods Flake was not listed. It was then I thought it was free game to make up my own. I sure have a lot to learn here 8O :P

Same thoughts myself, open the newer tin with 2-3 years of age, or the older with 5 knowing that aging begins to taper off with age past 5 years (or so they say)...
And in aging McClellands, I read once that tobacco that makes a clanking sound is dried out. But all of my McClellands give a little clank when I shake them. Are they the exception?
And @ transpose, what did you go with?!? Did you take a picture of the tobacco?

I can't help at all here. I've been smoking McClelland's daily. I say toss a coin and enjoy the heck out of it.

Gotta keep this short y’all. I’m currently sipping tastes of heaven with my eyes closed. I chose the 2013! I’ll be back later. I seriously might write a song about this moment!
